CiL Feature Implementation: University of Minnesota Athletics
12/7/2012, 10:57 AM
By Spencer Kitley
Many sports organizations and athletics teams use CoveritLive for live game coverage as part of an all-encompassing viewer experience, but the dashboard the University of Minnesota Athletics Department has created is second to none. Minnesota’s Game Day Live pages on GopherSports.com incorporate multiple elements, including social media, live statistics, key links and a prominent display of CoveritLive for its live game chats.
The main above-the-fold component of the Game Day Live pages is the CiL live chat that allows fans to interact with members of the athletics staff, while watching the live event on the computer or on their television. The live chat accompanies the standard CBS GameTracker window for live statistics, but adds more depth than what the stats provider’s simple play-by-play can deliver to fans.
Additionally, GopherSports.com provides event info, live video, live audio and other key links to give fans all of the information they desire in one easy-to-find location. The Game Day Live pages also include an up-to-date #Gophers Twitter feed and the latest updates from the team’s sport specific Facebook pages.
Minnesota uses their Game Day Live pages to engage fans of men’s hockey, football, volleyball, wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and even utilizes the pages for special events like football signing day and basketball media day.
Overall, this is an excellent dashboard-style implementation that provides Gopher enthusiasts with everything they need for the game, all in a single, easy-to-use Game Day Live experience.
