Show Details CoveritLive Weekly: Top five social TV events (May 14-20) 5/21/2012, 4:13 PM In much the same manner it has dominated the weekly rankings for much of April and May, European football was again king, capturing three of the top five spots in the weekly CoveritLive Social TV rankings, while the NHL Playoffs and WWE pay-per-view event rounded out the rankings. The excitement from the previous weekend’s Premier League final last Sunday spilled over into Monday as Aftonbladet’s coverage of Manchester City’s championship win landed the top spot on this week’s chart. The Swedish publisher attracted almost 40,000 viewers to its event and landed the fourth spot on the list as well, with its coverage of the NHL Playoffs. More than 23,000 viewers actively clicked into Aftonbladet’s coverage of the Eastern Conference Semifinals game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.
Champions League football also nabbed a pair of spots on the weekly list with Eurosport and VG Nett claiming the second and fifth positions, respectively. The two web sites drew in excess of 50,000 viewers to their Social TV events that followed the culmination of the largest European football tournament of the year.
The lone domestic event on this week’s list was hosted by the WWE as it attracted almost 29,000 viewers to its live ‘Over the Limit’ chat that accompanied its pay-per-view event. In 2012 to-date, the WWE has entertained an average of 30,000 viewers in each of its five pay-per-view event chats, including 35,000 viewers to its ‘Extreme Rules’ event.
*The CoveritLive blog will release its weekly social TV rankings every Monday. The data for the ranking system is exclusive to events that are tied to a television broadcast and the viewer metric is defined as a reader that actively clicks into a CiL event.
