CoverPages

A CoverPage is a permanent home for all of your live events, similar to a homepage on Flickr or Twitter. You can still embed all of your CoveritLive events wherever you like, but your CoverPage is "always on" and ensures that your Readers can easily find all of your live events on one convenient page. To build a CoverPage, sign in to your CiL account and go to My Account > CoverPages.

FAQs

What does a CoverPage look like? (View Screenshot)

A CoverPage is made up of the Viewer Window (which looks just like the CiL Viewer Windows you are familiar with), and the event Listings - a menu of Live, Upcoming, and Completed events. When you build a new CoverPage you will be given a unique URL for your CoverPage; i.e. http://name.coverpage.coveritlive.com. This is the page where you and your Readers can permanently view your CoverPage and all of your associated events.

How do I add events to my CoverPage?

Only events that are published to a Personal CoverPage or a Group will appear on the associated CoverPage. Therefore to add your event to a CoverPage you need to "publish" the event to it. Learn More

Can I add other users' events to my CoverPage?

Group CoverPages allow you to create a CoverPage that lists all the events from all of your Group Members in one place. First create a Group, then create a new Group CoverPage and select the name of your Group. Learn More

Can I embed a CoverPage on my website?

Yes, CoverPages includes an optional embed feature which allows you to embed your CoverPage on your own website. We recommend embedding a Group CoverPage on your website to easily showcase all of your CoveritLive events from all of your writers into one central place. Learn More

Personal CoverPages

All users can create a Personal CoverPage. When you build a new CoverPage you will be given a unique URL - i.e. http://name.coverpage.coveritlive.com. This is the page where you and your Readers can permanently view your CoverPage and all of your associated events. All of your Live, Upcoming, and Completed events will automatically be included in the listings. By default each time you create a new event it will also be published to your CoverPage. You can also manage the "publish" options on an event-by-event basis.

Group CoverPages

(You must be the Group Admin in order to create an associated Group CoverPage)

Users can create Groups in order to organize and administer a collection of CiL users. Once you create a Group, it's easy to create a Group CoverPage. A Group CoverPage automatically organizes all of your Group member's events onto one central page. The events on your Group CoverPage are always ready to go at a moment’s notice. Your writers don’t ever need to copy/paste an embed code, they simply give the event a title and launch it live. You and your readers have access to all events – past, present, and future – all on one convenient page.

When you build a new Group CoverPage you will be given a unique URL - i.e. http://name.coverpage.coveritlive.com. This is the page where you and your Readers can permanently view ALL of your Group's events. This includes an up-to-date listing of Upcoming, Live and Completed events (Tip: the average number of Replays watched is 50% of the Live number) so your readers can set reminders for what’s coming next or read archived content.

For maximum impact, use the embedded CoverPage option to add the CoverPage to your own website. This allows you to create a dynamic “go to” destination with the potential for significant readership. Now imagine how excited your sales force will get about selling that page to a sponsor.

Embed Options

The optional embed feature allows you to embed your CoverPage, to create a live destination on your own website. You only need to post your embed code once. Once it's posted, the embedded CoverPage will automatically update with all associated events.

To integrate the CoverPage into your own site simply build a new permanent page on your website, leaving space in your design for the CoverPage Viewer Window and Listings. To better integrate the CoverPage with your own website, embedded CoverPages can be customized (this includes the layout, labels and colors). This customization will only apply to the embedded version (and will not update the design of the HTML CoverPage located at your custom URL). Once you are happy with how your embedded CoverPage looks, copy the embed code and post it into your own webpage code.

Tip! If you have already posted the Embed code, clicking 'Save' will affect your live embedded CoverPage settings. Therefore we recommend using the Preview option provided. If you have previewed your updates and are happy with the customization, click 'Save' to apply.

We recommend embedding a Group CoverPage on your website to easily showcase all of your CoveritLive events from all of your writers into one central place. Tip! See how Philly.com, WWE, and the Sacramento Bee are using embedded CoverPages to to attract readers.

Publishing Events to a CoverPage

To add your event to a CoverPage you need to "publish" the event to it. The information below clarifies how to do this for both Personal and Group CoverPages.

Default Settings

To ensure that CoverPages are easy to build and easy to manage, they include default publish settings as listed below. Tip: To avoid having test events appear on your CoverPage we highly recommend using the Practice Session tool for all testing, rather than running a real "test" event.

  • Personal CoverPages: When you create a new Personal CoverPage all of your upcoming, live and completed events will automatically be included in the listings (including all events created before the CoverPage was built). By default each time you create a new event it will also be published to your Personal CoverPage. You can choose to exclude specific events from publishing to a Personal CoverPage if required (see Manual Publish Options below).

  • Groups: When you create a new Group CoverPage all Group Member's future upcoming, live and completed events will automatically be included in the listings. Only events that are published to that Group will appear on the associated Group CoverPage. You can choose to exclude specific events from publishing to a Group if required. Events belonging to Group members that were created before the CoverPage was built will NOT be included by default. As a result when you first create a Group CoverPage you may not see any associated events on your CoverPage. This can be fixed by manually updating the publish options associated with specific events (see Manual Publish Options below).

NOTE: Group defaults can be managed from the My Account > Groups page. You can set a "Default Publishing Setting" for each Group that you administer or belong to, to ensure that all of your own events are automatically published to a specific Group.

Manual Publish Options

The ability to Publish an event to a Personal CoverPage or to a Group (CoverPage) can be changed on an event-by-event basis by the event owner. "Publish Options" can be managed when editing the details for a Live or Upcoming event, or by selecting an event from your Listings and clicking the "Publish Options" icon.

  • Personal CoverPages: If you want to include an event on a Personal CoverPage make sure that the name of the Personal CoverPage is selected under "Publish Options". To exclude specific events simply de-select the name of the CoverPage.

  • Groups: If you want to include an event on a Group CoverPage make sure that the name of the associated Group is selected under "Publish Options". This will include your event not only on the associated Group CoverPage, but also as part of the Group's Stats and Group's API feeds. To exclude a specific events from your Group simply de-select the Group name under "Publish Options".
