Carp ! Is krieder in only because of his skating ability and offense? JT Miller has played ,ore torts style when he was around..
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:31 Steve!
11:32
Kreider's in because Clowe, Boyle and Dorsett are out. Kreider is obviously more playoff ready than Miller with his experience last year. He'll have to play well the first game or two to stay in if the injured come back.

So...Staal? Clowe? Dorsett? Boyle? Sauer?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:33 Gravy

I wouldn't rule out Staal in this series, even as early as tonight.

Any chance Staal plays tonight?

Yes, a chance.

Do you think the Rangers can slow down or stop the Caps powerplay?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:34 Draxen
11:35
I really don't think they can stop it. They'd better stay out of the box. I worry about their play around the net.

Thanks for the Charp. Thoughts on Islander game last night?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:35 Headzo
11:35
Surprised the Isles, with no pressure and no Crosby didn't put up a fight at all. Embarrassing, really.

Besides containing Ovechkin, what do you think are the keys to the series? Also, countdown to "Ovie Sucks" = best chant ever?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:35 Gravy
11:36
The key will obviously be the special teams. The Rangers PP better get some goals because the Capitals will. The Rangers ability or inability to score more than one or two goals a game will determine how long they stay in it or if they survive it.
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:36
11:37
The Ovie chant was awesome. I thought when MSG first did the Aflie chant, that was the best chant ever.

I also got a kick out of the Pitt fans doing the "wooo" thing last night, mocking the Islanders fans.

Are Manhattans a poor choice for drinks during games? (Firmly intend on watching from my couch so no driving is involved)
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:37 Boston Bonehead

Can you make it to overtime on Manhattans? That is the question.

Has NHL announced referees - penalties/power plays may decide series
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:37 BobbyO

I'm sure the officials are out. Haven't checked the game notes yet.
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:38

But, yes, penalties will be critical.

Carp- how do the rangers win this series? besides Hank standing on his head..
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:38 Sal Bass
11:39
They win this series if they have scoring depth. There's a lot of pressure on the Stepan line, and so the Richards and Brassard lines will have to chip in. Have to.

How ready do you think the Rangers are for this series? From what you've gathered from the mini camp?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:39 Steve!
11:40
I think they're mentally ready and rarin' to go, and loaded with confidence. But execution will outweigh readiness. Honestly, their inconsistency throughout the season, and the weakness of the schedule at the end, have me wondering how they will perform.

Thursday May 2, 2013 11:40 Chris

He's here. I imagine he'd be the choice ahead of Gilroy at this point. Or Bickel.

Or, everybody could just jump off the roof after Game 1, which is completely what I expect ... not to mention the predictable "Fire Torts" stuff from the predictable posters.

I know Clowe isn't practicing and they aren't releasing info on his injury but has he at least been around the team?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:42 Draxen
11:43
I haven't seen him at all. I'm pretty certain, based on what I've heard and what I saw that night, that it's a concussion.

It was the Carolina game, Bobby Sanguinetti's elbow.

Carp, I know Torts prefers a "shut-down" pair on D, but do the Rangers have a forward capable of shadowing Ovechkin?
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:43 Cousin Tom
11:44
I thought about that yesterday, Tom. Teams don't do the shadow thing anymore. They prefer an aggressive forecheck, mostly -- especially the Rangers. So they don't want a forward dropping back. If only Jan Erixon was around, right?

First things first, thanks Carp for letting in my (barely) late entry for the playoff predictions, and Latona for pleading my case. I won't even come close to winning or anything, but the world needs more people like you two
Thursday May 2, 2013 11:44 Jeremy
11:44
Well, it already has one too many like me, but I'll second the notion on Latona. Thanks Jeremy.
