Good morning:
The high winds that affected most of the province Wednesday seem to have subsided in most areas.

But there's still a wind warning for the Northern Peninsula east.

Environment Canada says a low pressure system off the northeast coast of Newfoundland will move further out to sea this morning.

Northwesterly wind gusts reaching 100 km/h behind this system are expected to redevelop this morning over the Northern Peninsula.

It seems pretty calm this morning in St. John's-metro, with a temperature of about 2 Celsius.

Environment Canada says the temperature will fall to about 1 Celsius today and we could have some rain showers or flurries.

Here's the weather graphic and more detailed text version of the Environment Canada forecast for St. John's and vicinity.

If you don't get Kevin Tobin's cartoon, it's about a proposal approved by St. John's city council for a huge propane tank for restaurants located on the harbourfront.

The application from The Keg is to remove 12 existing propane tanks to be replaced with one 5,000-gallon tank to be used by The Keg and the two neighbouring restaurants, Jack Astors and Legros & Motti under construction.

I don't know what concerns this would pose in the event of a fire. I covered the Magic Wok fire downtown quite a few years ago and firefighters were worried about the smaller propane tank there blowing up. It was hissing, releasing gas while the building was in flames. I would think a huge tank like the one proposed would be like a bomb going off if it caught fire.
