Good morning:

After a beautiful weekend, we're still in the double digits today with a temperature of 14 Celsius already this morning in St. John's.

A broad area of low pressure over the Gulf of St. Lawrence will
remain quasistationary for most of this week. An extended period of
rain is expected for Central and Southeastern Labrador as this low
continues to tap into tropical moisture until it moves east of
Newfoundland on Thursday.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for some areas. However, rainfall
amounts for adjacent regions are approaching warning criteria
therefore warnings may need to be expanded. Please monitor the
latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca

[Comment From Kevin JCKevin JC: ]
Brad Paisley mentioned some of his band looking to marry a "Newfie" girl at the Saturday night concert, and was met with loud applause. I don't like the term but it is all about the way it is used. Obviously he didn't used it in a derogative manner and likely didn't know there was any controversy about it. Otherwise, I am sure that he would not have said it, for risk of alienating some of his audience.

Some people do use the word in a non-derogatory manner, but I think it's the derogatory use of the term in the past that angers many Newfoundlanders.

My father was a U.S. serviceman and the term "Yanks" was used a lot when I was growing up to describe Americans. I never liked that term either, but I know many people here respected the Americans and their contributions to the province.

Brendan McCarthy has a story in today's Telegram about the IceCaps.

IceCaps training camp set to get underway

The Winnipeg Jets still have about a dozen cuts to make to get down to their 23-man limit before the 2013-14 National Hockey League season begins a week from now, and those cuts will likely make up about half the roster of the American Hockey League’s St. John’s IceCaps.
However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a sufficient amount of players on hand as the IceCaps open up their third training camp today at Mile One Centre.
