Good morning:
According to Environment Canada, 13.8 cms of snow was recorded Tuesday at St. John's International Airport.

It was enough to create slippery driving conditions, which resulted in some traffic collisions in the St. John's-metro region.

But, when you look at weather in previous years, I guess it could have been a lot worse.

According to Environment Canada, on this day in 2000, there was 40 cms of snow on the ground in St. John's.

It's -3 Celsius now in St. John's, with a high temperature today expected to be around -2 and low tonight of -9.

Over the next few days, there will be a chill in the air.

Environment Canada says a frigid northwesterly flow associated with a deepening low pressure system over the Labrador Sea will move over Newfoundland today and Thursday causing intermittent snow squalls for the west and south coasts.

The Port aux Basques area and southern areas of the Burin Peninsula have the highest probability of getting clipped by the heaviest squalls.

Here's a map showing the areas of the province in yellow expected to get those squalls.

The top story on the front page of today's Telegram is by James McLeod, who covered the announcement late Tuesday about the financing for Muskrat Falls.

The government has secured $5 billion in financing for the project for 40 years at a blended interest rate of 3.8 per cent.

The announcement was scheduled to coincide with the closing of the House of Assembly. I guess opposition party members won't be able to question government members about it, not in the legislature anyway.

Here's a link to the story.
