Made it! Hey, I saw three bald eagles on the drive down to Corvallis today.

How concerned is Bobby D about coach Robinson hurling F bombs in a half empty coliseum ? Seems this hurts our public perception.
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:01 Fm
12:03
John Hunt:
Nobody is naive enough to think that coaches won't drop the F-sharp from time to time, but when you're losing, you don't want any more negatives, that's for sure.

What is the latest word on Wetzler? Will he be available this weekend? How serious is the injury?
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:03 Todd
12:04
John Hunt:
Wetzler will be available this weekend, but the Beavers have neither the need nor the desire to push him. He's not going to start Friday night, but look for him to get some innings in.

I played in a parents vs. kids basketball game last night - first meaningful action in about 10 years. So I'm under the influence of Advil as I type.

Are you as injured as Brandt and Gomis? What's their status?
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:07 The Oregonian

[Comment From FmFm: ]
Brandt and Gomis??? Seems like Casey could use Wetzler, Starr, Fry and Barnes as excuses.... But he doesn't ... He just wins
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:07 Fm
12:08
John Hunt:
Brandt and Gomis - It has hurt. Brandt spaces the floor on offense, does dirty work on defense and was coming into his own as a rebounder. Gomis, of course, is still kind of unknown commodity, so you can't really use that as an excuse at all. Heck, teams lose players all the time, but that's no excuse to go 3-12.

Hypothetically if the beavers fire Robinson, how would that affect the moral of the players? Recruits?

Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:10 The Oregonian
12:11
John Hunt:
When you're evaluating a coach, you have to look at the recruiting. Do Robinson's charisma and connections translate into top recruits? I don't know. The morale? It would hurt. Despite the dud the Beavers turned in against Stanford, the Beavers have not quit on Robinson - they certainly didn't against Cal. And Mike Montgomery was complimentary of that after the game. (Monty doesn't blow smoke, either.)
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:11 John Hunt
12:11
[Comment From FmFm: ]
One last question before I go... What are you hearing about Craig's incoming class? Will they help at all. Will they be better than Olaf etc? Thanks
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:11 Fm
12:13
John Hunt:
In N'Diaye, they have a guy who, well, should be about what the Huskies' N'Diaye is (no relation). Hallice Cooke is the intriguing one. If he can play point - we know he can shoot - then the Beavers could have some success next season, especially with Brandt, Gomis, Collier, Moreland, N'Diaye on the front line.

Any news on the mystery that is morris-walker stealing a $25 t-shirt from the bookstore?
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:15 Guest
12:16
John Hunt:
Not sure there's any mystery. The kid got caught leaving with a T-shirt he didn't pay for. Looks like the one-game suspension is the team punishment there.

[Comment From marcodgmarcodg: ]
Is it my imagination or are Casey's boys scoring more runs this year? Seems like the last few years OSU relied on pitching, defense and some timely hitting. This year it looks like there is some muscle. Is that your take?
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:16 marcodg
12:19
John Hunt:
It's easy to get excited about this team. Not only is the pitching putting up unreal numbers, but they have good hitters returning, Danny Hayes is healthy, so is Kavin Keyes. Andy Peterson is doing things well offensively and defensively at 2B. And Ryan Barnes should be back soon. The young bats, Clark and Casper, have a lot of potential.

Any chance that Robinson reworks his staff. I ask this because of two observations: 1) I see players not getting any better, making the same dumb mistakes year after year, 2) I don't think Robinson is going anywhere due to his large contract.

I would fire him and go steal a Kaleb Canales from the blazers, lol. No chance of that happening though. I bet you could put Mike Riley on double duty as head coach of the bball team and he would produce more wins. Did you see Obum's dunk?
Tuesday February 26, 2013 12:33 JT
12:33

So, let me get this straight: Boom is a legit jumper in track, has a nice dunk in basketball, but he's on a football scholarship playing a sport where he's not that great?

He still makes alot of coaching mistakes. His players are taking shots in low percentage areas of the court, and he is outcoached by other teams. Its an experience issue.
