Democratic California Debate(01/31/2008)

Here we go. Debate should be starting soon. CNN is telling us to watch for who does the best job of pandering to the Edwards supporters. Sounds like a good thing to watch for...

Wolf Blitzer is hosting.

And there are no rules—or, at least, very few rules. The candidates can talk for as long as they want (within reason) and the debate lasts for 90 minutes.

Her wonkiness (and her viciousness when need be) make her a good VP candidate. I just don't think she'd take it.

Clinton successfully ran out the clock on whether she'd want Obama as a running-mate, talking about her web site and her national town hall.

i can't imagine that either of them would want to be vice president. particularly clinton. that, and obama often has trouble appearing to like or tolerate clinton.

My take: I don't think this affects the Feb. 5 contests much. No big knockouts, no big gaffes. People who were already committed to one candidate or the other won't change their minds because of this. People just tuning in for the first time by watching this debate—well, they'll split along the same lines they would have if they found out about the candidates some other way. But the big winner does seem to be, as cheesy as it might sound, the Democratic party. It looks so much more ahead-of-the-curve than the Republicans, who are all about the past (think of all the Reagan references last night), all white, all male, and way out of touch with a whole lot of Americans.
