Live Chat: Gladow and Young weekend preview(05/02/2008)
11:58
George Pepis:
good friday afternoon dave how are you doing my friend
Friday May 2, 2008 11:58 George Pepis
11:59
Dave Gladow:

Just fine and dandy.   Welcome everyone to another of our WGSO weekly sports chats!   Hope everyone is doing well (including you, George).

Friday May 2, 2008 11:59 Dave Gladow
12:00
Jude Young:
Hello, Friends. Another busy sports weekend ahead....
Friday May 2, 2008 12:00 Jude Young
12:01
Dave Gladow:
And the biggest news of all probably broke this morning ... it's now official we won't have to worry about covering the Ryan Perrilloux story any more because he's officially been kicked off the LSU team!
Friday May 2, 2008 12:01 Dave Gladow
12:01
Dave Gladow:
From a member of the media's persepective, that is reason for celebration.   Perhaps we can all move on now?
Friday May 2, 2008 12:01 Dave Gladow
12:02
Dave Gladow:
(After we of course discuss it to death over the next few days). :-)
Friday May 2, 2008 12:02 Dave Gladow
12:03
George Pepis:
Ryan Perrilloux brought this on himself he desreves anything that he gets i cant believe a guy who to me is one potentially great QB could ruin himself like this you hope that he redeems himself but i suspect that isnt happening
Friday May 2, 2008 12:03 George Pepis
12:04
George Pepis:
what totally reeks is that this is a bigger story than what should be the big story and that obviously is our beloved Hornets vs Spurs second round tilt
Friday May 2, 2008 12:04 George Pepis
12:05
Dave Gladow:
This can be an eye-opening experience for him ... but it could just as easily be his first step toward a real downward spiral.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:05 Dave Gladow
12:05
Dave Gladow:
Someone will give him a second chance.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:05 Dave Gladow
12:06
Dave Gladow:
It will be interesting to see what he does with it.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:06 Dave Gladow
12:06
George Pepis:
IF   thats the case i hope he corrects the wrongs he has made
Friday May 2, 2008 12:06 George Pepis
12:07
Dave Gladow:

Agreed .. no need to hold any ill will toward him.   He's let his fans, coaches and teammates down already ... and if he has any pride at all, he's also let himself down too.   That's gotta be tough enough to deal with.

Friday May 2, 2008 12:07 Dave Gladow
12:08
George Pepis:
couldnt have said it better myself but what this does now is raise the proverbial question is where does LSU go from here
Friday May 2, 2008 12:08 George Pepis
12:09
Dave Gladow:
I wonder if the Spring Game is any indication...
Friday May 2, 2008 12:09 Dave Gladow
12:10
George Pepis:
if it is uh oh if youre a tiger fan i still think they win the SEC west but no shot vs Georgia i think the dawgs may win it all this year
Friday May 2, 2008 12:10 George Pepis
12:11
Dave Gladow:

And the SEC  West is no lock either.   Auburn brings back a lot of talent this year, and Alabama has something neither team does ... a talented AND experienced quarterback.

Friday May 2, 2008 12:11 Dave Gladow
12:12
Jude Young:
Can Jarrett Lee manage the game, Guys?
Friday May 2, 2008 12:12 Jude Young
12:13
George Pepis:
You hope he can Jude but if he doesnt then you have potential issues with Hatch but why not give Jordan Jefferson a look
Friday May 2, 2008 12:13 George Pepis
12:14
Dave Gladow:
My guess would be Lee CAN manage a game, given the limited amount of I've seen of him, because he's learned from one of the great game-managers of all time in Matt Flynn.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:14 Dave Gladow
12:14
Jude Young:
If Jefferson is playing meaningful snaps this season, Tiger fans need to reserve Indy Bowl tickets.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:14 Jude Young
12:14
[Comment From MerMer: ]
Do you think that Coach Miles' response to Perrilloux should be the standard response for players who engage in illegal activity? Coming from the University of Texas, I've seen considerable amounts of slack given to prominent players when they had brushes with the law.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:14 Mer
12:15
Jude Young:
Dave...Flynn is "one of the great game-managers of all-time?"
Friday May 2, 2008 12:15 Jude Young
12:15
George Pepis:
if it isnt i shudder to think where we are when it comes to discipline
Friday May 2, 2008 12:15 George Pepis
12:15
Jude Young:
that's like calling George one of the great horse racing handicappers of all-time.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:15 Jude Young
12:15
George Pepis:
BITE ME
Friday May 2, 2008 12:15 George Pepis
12:15
Dave Gladow:
Can't argue with the results ... any quarterback who doesn't excel and wins a title would meet that criteria in my mind.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:15 Dave Gladow
12:16
Dave Gladow:
Flynn was VERY steady.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:16 Dave Gladow
12:17
Jude Young:
I know, Dave. i'm just kidding. He got the job done.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:17 Jude Young
12:19
Dave Gladow:
I said from the beginning, that from a public relations standpoint, Miles handled this situation perfectly though.   He gave himself tons of wiggle room from the very beginning, which kept the criticism to a minimum as he decided what he wanted to do.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:19 Dave Gladow
12:19
Jude Young:
I think Lee can do it. But, he doesn't have Flynn's mobility. The inability to pull the ball down and run when things breakdown make the need for Lee to make smart decisions and throw the ball away at the right times even more crucial.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:19 Jude Young

How about them Rays

[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
Who will start on defense 4 the Saints this year? and do we still have a chance 2 get Jeremy Shockey??????
Friday May 2, 2008 12:20 Nader Mirfiq
12:20
[Comment From MerMer: ]
Do you think the majority of LSU's fans agree with Miles's decision?
Friday May 2, 2008 12:20 Mer
12:23
Dave Gladow:
Mer, I'd say yes.   They were all tired of the kid's antics, and really just wanted to move on.   If any fan base still had a love affiar with Perrilloux, it was ... of all teams ... Texas'.   Their fans never got over losing Perrilloux to LSU in the recruiting wars, and I'm sure if you go to their message boards right now there will be a vocal majority still clammoring for his services.   At LSU he'd burned too many bridges.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:23 Dave Gladow
12:23
George Pepis:

if there are any fans who disagree then oh boy id love to hear their argument in defense of perrilloux

Friday May 2, 2008 12:23 George Pepis
12:24
[Comment From MerMer: ]
Speaks a lot about Texas' standards, huh? ;)
Friday May 2, 2008 12:24 Mer
12:24
[Comment From A. TA. T: ]
how could you waste sooooooo much talent, you know people had to be talking to him everyday about gettting his act together
Friday May 2, 2008 12:24 A. T
12:26
George Pepis:
i agree A.T. i mean really this is a guy i know can make it at the next level but he really needs to take a real hard look at himself
Friday May 2, 2008 12:26 George Pepis
12:27
George Pepis:
before he can continue to develop
Friday May 2, 2008 12:27 George Pepis
12:27
[Comment From A. TA. T: ]
do they have mentors or aids helping these players
Friday May 2, 2008 12:27 A. T
12:27
Dave Gladow:
Nader, your first question is one we'll see answered over the coming months.   I LOVE what the Saints have done as far as adding depth to their defense.   Could they use more impact guys?   Sure.   But when you've got a linebacking crew that includes players like Scott Shanle and Mark Simoneaur penciled in as backups, you've got some very nice depth.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:27 Dave Gladow
12:29
George Pepis:
Nader i said right here last friday that the Saints would trade up to 7 and snag Ellis i love that pick and dont sell Porter short either this is a guy who has the football smarts to play the corner position but for me all their picks will stick after the final cut
Friday May 2, 2008 12:29 George Pepis
12:31
Dave Gladow:

Best guess for a Saints "D" starting lineup:

Grant, Thomas, Ellis, Smith

Fujita, Vilma, Morgan

Craft, Gay, Harper, Kaesviharn

Friday May 2, 2008 12:31 Dave Gladow
12:31
[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
dont u think if we get Shockey we would make defenses go crazy, because seems when Billy Miller comes in defenses know we r going 2 run!
Friday May 2, 2008 12:31 Nader Mirfiq
12:31
George Pepis:
Eliminate the idea of Shockey coming here it isnt happening
Friday May 2, 2008 12:31 George Pepis
12:32
[Comment From MikeMike: ]
Isn't Shockey locker room poison?
Friday May 2, 2008 12:32 Mike
12:32
George Pepis:
if there wasnt a trade last weekend during the draft it isnt gonna happen
Friday May 2, 2008 12:32 George Pepis
12:33
Dave Gladow:
I very much dislike Shockey as a persona, but as a player he's a perfect fit.   The problem comes when he's stalking around the sidelines with zero catches in the second quarter and becoming a distraction ... don't think that's worth the bother.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:33 Dave Gladow
12:33
[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
i like Porter ALOT i would love 4 him 2 start opposite Mckenzie.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:33 Nader Mirfiq
12:34
Dave Gladow:
Porter and Young will push for time, but it's going to be tough for them to start right out of the gate.   Likewise for McKenzie, given his injury.   We may have to settle for tons of Gay, Craft and David early in the year, especially if McKenzie has a setback.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:34 Dave Gladow
12:34
[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
yea u do have a point George!
Friday May 2, 2008 12:34 Nader Mirfiq
12:35
Dave Gladow:
That secondary could become a real strength by the end of the year though.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:35 Dave Gladow
12:35
[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
do u guys thinks if reggie doesnt hav a big year that we will trade him?
Friday May 2, 2008 12:35 Nader Mirfiq
12:36
George Pepis:
Nader i will say this and call me crazy with the success of Reggies buddy Chris Paul i think that motivates him to a monster year watch and see
Friday May 2, 2008 12:36 George Pepis
12:36
[Comment From Nader MirfiqNader Mirfiq: ]
i hope it does because we were HORIBLE LAST YEAR WITH JASON POOH DAVID!!! LMAO!
Friday May 2, 2008 12:36 Nader Mirfiq
12:36
Justin:

Hello everyone and to you Nader no the Saints wont trade Bush after this season. He would be hard to move especially if he has a bad season cause you will hear the word "bust" thrown around and I believe teams will become apprehensive about that

Friday May 2, 2008 12:36 Justin
12:37
[Comment From MikeMike: ]
I think Reggie has a break out year.

JU JU HES QUICKER THAN WELLS AND CAN KEEP UP WITH GINOBLI

12:38
[Comment From MikeMike: ]
I agree
Friday May 2, 2008 12:38 Mike
12:39
Dave Gladow:
It's an interesting question, because Ginobli's been a constant for the Spurs all year, while the changes in the Hornets lineup have actually still managed to limit him well.   No matter who the Hornets threw at him, he struggled (with one exception).
Friday May 2, 2008 12:39 Dave Gladow
12:39
Dave Gladow:
I'm not sure he's going to be as big a factor as some think he is.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:39 Dave Gladow
12:39
George Pepis:
Nader i think smarts will beat quickness Bonzi knows Ginobli so well that being said i think he has to be the one to front him and frustrate him
Friday May 2, 2008 12:39 George Pepis
12:39
[Comment From MikeMike: ]
But Bonzi has more experience (ha ha)
Friday May 2, 2008 12:39 Mike

It doesn't seem like the Spurs have been playing as cohesively as they have in past years.

[Comment From BizzleBizzle: ]
We need to keep our bigs out of foul trouble. Probably see Melvin Eli in earlier to save TC for the 4th. Kurt Thomas worries me on the boards (don't laugh I'm serious).
Friday May 2, 2008 12:40 Bizzle

You must not have seen the previous series Mer
Friday May 2, 2008 12:40 George Pepis

They have turned it up a few notches for the playoffs ... as they always do.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:41 Dave Gladow
12:41
George Pepis:
playoff time equals the Spurs very best the Hornets have to match their intensity in order to succeed
Friday May 2, 2008 12:41 George Pepis
12:41
Dave Gladow:
But yeah, their regular season was kind of a snoozer.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:41 Dave Gladow

WOOOOOOOOOO   lol
Friday May 2, 2008 12:42 George Pepis
12:43
Dave Gladow:
I don't like the idea of Ely playing a lot, Bizzle.   Chandler will need to be spelled, no doubt, but remember that the Spurs are going to have just as much trouble defending the paint as the Hornets are.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:43 Dave Gladow
12:43
Jude Young:
Bonzie Wells versus Manu Ginobli in the 4th quarter of close games will ikely tell teh tale in this series.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:43 Jude Young
12:44
Jude Young:
likely tell the tale*
Friday May 2, 2008 12:44 Jude Young

I see it as more of a CP3 vs. Parker matchup.
Friday May 2, 2008 12:44 Dave Gladow
12:44
George Pepis:
i think the Hornets can play fast and thats what may be the formula to beat what is being called an aging team
Friday May 2, 2008 12:44 George Pepis
12:45

All things being equal, each team will want to rely on their PG to win the game for them.

I like to think Peja is the team's X-Factor, and in a lot of ways, he is (if he scores 20 the Hornets are usually unbeatable).   But Mo-Pete has been critical in picking up the slack plenty of times this year.   When everyone else is struggling, he's usually doing well.   I don't know why that is, but there ya go.   And it's prevented a ton of 30-point blowouts this year.
