Steve,
First of all, I don't think Syracuse goes to anyone outside of Mike Hopkins. But if circumstances made that a possibility, why not Gregg Marshall?

Umar,
Well, great performances in the post season have lifted previous SU players high in the draft (Jonny Flynn?) Jerami said earlier this season he'd weigh all the possibilities and then decide. Obviously if he somehow climbs into a certain lottery pick, he'd have to seriously consider leaving school.

Beth,
I haven't seen enough of your games to comment. But I'm a big Doris Burke fan. She's great. I've never understood the animosity people have for Doris. She knows the game, she's smart, the players and coaches respect her. And she's a friendly, nice person. I always love running into her.

How much does this team miss Brandon Triche's ability to get to the rim, i feel like he's the forgotten non-returning player from last year...

Donna Ditota:
Dr. Donald,
I do think Syracuse could benefit from having Trevor Cooney penetrate more. Brandon did not shoot the ball particularly well last year, but he was a threat there and he was a better passer and penetrator than Trevor at this stage. I think Trevor can get better there. SU just really needs him on the perimeter this season.

Donna, I have concerns JB will throw caution to the wind during the ACC tourney, and play my Jerami way too many minutes this Fri/Sat/Sun. Do I need to speak with coach on this, or will he show some common sense, and make sure he's strong for the real tournament and beyond?

Donna Ditota:
Harvey,
Jerami has said for the past couple days that his back is fine. I watched practice yesterday and he seems good. I'm sure the coaches and Brad Pike are monitoring Jerami pretty closely. I mean, it's no secret that he's a key player in the postseason.

I read somewhere that after the FSU Grant was icing his back and knees. Is there anything significant about why Grant was icing his knees? And generally, is there any additional news on Grants back injury. P.S. Great articles by you this season. Thanks!

Donna Ditota:
Dave,
You read it in my story about Jerami! SU players routinely ice their knees after games. It's not just Jerami. No news about his back; like I've said, he practiced yesterday, seemed fine.
And thanks!

Donna Ditota:
Mike,
That's something we'll have to investigate after the season. I was told when the surgery was announced that he had played too many games to be considered for a medical hardship. Since then, I've heard rumblings that SU might do some leg work for him to find out. We'll keep you posted.

Seing that JB won the BET five times in his career and won a combined two NCAA's games in the seasons he won the BET, do you think it is wise for SU to try and win the ACCT?

Do you see Trevor Cooney continuing to shoot a high volume from the perimeter as much as he has been or possibly starting to attack more to move on from the slump he has been in?
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:12 Mike, NYC
12:14
Donna Ditota:
NYC Mike,
The Syracuse coaches want Trevor to attack more. He knows it. And he's done that in the past few games. It's a bit of a conundrum for the Orange. Since he's their only perceived perimeter threat, he needs to stay out there and attempt some threes (and hopefully make some). But defenses are obviously playing him to shoot that shot or preventing him from catching it in good perimeter scoring position. He needs to incorporate more off the dribble, whether it's a pull-up jumper or a trip all the way to the rim.

You know, I always feel badly for the young guys who don't play. It's really, really hard. They've all admitted it. But they seem to be hanging in there. I can't remember the last time Ron Patterson or BJ Johnson got any run.

Low far will SU make it in the NCAA's?

Donna Ditota:
SU fan,
I say this every year: How far Syracuse goes depends a lot on which teams are in the Orange bracket. It sounds simple, but it's true. SU does not want to see any teams with multiple 3-point shooting threats, especially if those teams also have a low post presence.

Given BMK's graduating..does Obokuh look like he can give us as much next year on the court as Baye has this year?

Donna Ditota:
Guest,
You know, Chino is sort of similar to Baye in that both of them are primarily defensive players who can rebound the ball. He's bigger (and I might say stronger) than Baye right now. But he is still learning the game. I think he has the physical tools to be a good defender, rebounder, but right now he is a bit offensively challenged.

Syracuse always enjoyed a "home court" feel at Madison Square garden for the Big East. What impact do you think the "anyone but Syracuse" feel will have on this current team as the ACC sucks up to duke and carolina.

I really don't think it'll have that much effect. Syracuse is a pretty good road team. I think they will enjoy the adversity.

Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:21 Mike

Donna Ditota:
Mike,
My quick summary: Ron Patterson is a streaky shooter, a really good athlete and a better passer than I might have anticipated. He can defend. He's a tough young man. B.J. Johnson can shoot the ball. He needs to add some muscle and some weight. He's a good athlete who can play above the rim.

Donna. Don't you think Cooney Misses Coleman the most who used to pound inside and look for him for wide open shots?
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:23 Junior
12:24
Donna Ditota:
Junior,
Well, sure, Trevor would benefit from a consistent low post presence. I think Rakeem can be that guy. When he gets the ball in there, he can score. People have to guard him. And Trev has had his share of open looks these past few games. He just needs to make some of them. He says his confidence isn't shaken. And he works really hard on it.

Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:24 Junior
12:26
Donna Ditota:
Junior,
I keep saying this, but I think Tyler Roberson can play. I really do. He's been beaten down a bit from not playing. He played a little scared on offense vs. Georgia Tech. Jim said he was lost on defense, but I thought he made some nice plays on defense; occasionally he got turned around a bit inside, but hey, those things happen to veteran guys, too. I don't know how much run he'll get the rest of the way. It could depend on foul trouble, injuries, etc. He's a good player. He really is.

Donna. Great work by you guys as always this season. I know big men take a little more time to develop (re: Ricky Jackson) but Coleman worries me as our primary big guy. Injuries aside, his numbers weren't great this season. Thoughts going forward?
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:27 Jack
12:28
Donna Ditota:
Jack,
First of all, thank you. I think Dajuan has a ton of potential as a low post scorer. He was starting to figure out how to use his bulk to create separation and find scoring opportunities inside. He's relentless on the offensive glass. It takes time and the worst thing about him right now is he's missed parts of two straight seasons. I feel for him in that regard. He's missing valuable developmental time.

Donna Ditota:
Matt,
This is the eternal, weekly question. I really don't know. I don't think anybody does. I hope they both come back because both of them need work on their games and on their bodies. But if they're projected to be lottery picks, they almost have to go. Those are decisions they will make with their families after the season.

Nice to see SU out in transition against FSU. Is this something that they've been working on a lot during practice and we should expect to see more of this season, or was it more of a matchup thing against who they played?
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:30 EZ
12:32
Donna Ditota:
EZ,
Those transition baskets were the most important thing to come out of Tallahassee. SU needs to get some easy buckets. The Orange rebounded really well in that game against a team that's oddly not great on the backboards with all their size. SU can create transition chances with its defense, but pushing it out after a rebound works, too. SU works on it all the time. There was special emphasis on it yesterday during practice.

Donna, don't yu agree with JB that fatigue shouldn't be a facctor for these kids? I like what he said that the tired factor is way overblown. Obviously we have to keep our big four onthe floor or we can't contenc
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:32 Benzy
12:34
Donna Ditota:
Benzy,
I do think that an accumulation of a lot of games in a short period of time wears on players. They have admitted it over the years. It's just hard to stay sharp and rested when you're playing three games in six days. Jim has said for years that fatigue is not a factor, though he has also said he'd prefer a tired starter to a fresh bench player.

[Comment From JJ: ]
It seems like Rak and Keita are getting in foul trouble a lot recently. Is the reason sloppy play, tired, officiating?
Wednesday March 12, 2014 12:34 J
12:36
Donna Ditota:
J,
Rakeem did not get into foul trouble when he was the only option at center. Now that he has relief in BMK, he's getting into foul trouble. He's just not as disciplined knowing that he has back up. Same can be said for Baye, I think it's really important for Rakeem to stay out of foul trouble. He gives Syracuse a credible scoring option in the middle.
