Chatting with my pal Fleep Tuque at the moment, in SL - she guest moderated for me at last night's SL Education Roundtable - which focused on the upcoming SLCCed conference.   Best attendance on record, 48 people!

Fleep noted that Claudio Linden and Prospero Linden were at last nights meeting.   They were both at another meeting this month, that time with Pathfinder Linden.   I guess the SL Education Roundtable is attracting some attention.

Now I'm going to head over to CEHS island and show Edina, one of the faculty members there, what I've done on the project I'm working on for her.   It has to do with an iceberg and Freud (she teaches counseling)

Does anyone know why the text scrolls off to the right and out of the viewing range.   If you read this and know how I can fix that, let me know please.

So we are thinking of having 3 or 4 groups in my class and letting them choose from 4 or 5 projects on second life, what do you think?

I think that sounds like a great idea!

We will have kiosk on site and info in the library, also have students find things to put in the office, etc.

Moving files off my office desktop, in the off chance that a replacement comes through while I'm away.   Also, making sure I have a flash drive with me that has a current version of SL, so I can use a machine other than my own if I can't find a way to be connected with my laptop.

SL has version 1.20 up on their site, but some have reported problems with it and I'd prefer NOT to take that version alone, with me.   So I'm looking for version 1.19, which is still supported.   I can't find it on the site and I just asked a list or two where I can find it.

Interrupted by a few phone calls - back to putting SL on a flash drive.   Trying to load 19.x and 20.x on the same drive.   If that works, might also be able to load main viewer and release candidate on the same flash drive also.   Once extracted I need to find a machine that doesn't have SL and test.

Th student assistant computer in the tech lab is SLOOOOOW.   I was able to open both 1.19 and 1.20 version from the one flash drive.   Since there is enought room (and its only a 256MB flash drive), I"m going to also toss the Release Candidate on there.   Ah, choices!

Just got four sticky notes off my computer monitor while I waited for SL Release Candidate to download onto the flash drive.   I don't think the RC will even open on the computer I tested the first two on, so I'm going to test it on my office PC.   My only concern is that I already have SL installed on the unit itself, but as long as it opens I think it will work.

Well - it opened, didn't work well - of course my office PC is a dog also (no offense Alan).   If I run into a problem down there, I suppose I can deal with it - or just not sign in!   There's a concept!

Seeing a mystery blip on the map in SL - went over to it but nobody is there.   Contacting Concierege now to see what the issue might be.

Linden Lan Concierge Support suggested restarting the region, which I am doing now.   We'll see if it still exists when the region comes back up.   They say is may be a "ghost" of an avatar.   In the meantime, I'm chatting with Joao Mattar about my upcoming trip to Sao Paulo.

Today has been a day about phones, apparently.   As an aside, for those of you who have my work cell phone, ending in 5068, you can disregard that number as of tomorrow.   Since I'm not doing support, I'm no longer on 24x7x365 and am quite happy to return the phone.   Truth is, it did not get much use anyway.

Putting together survey questions for a vehicle we'll send out to those who have taught (or will teach) in a purely online mode - the questions are about assessment.   This is one of the projects that I'm working on with our new interim Associate Dean.

Twitter, WordPress, Flickr, GoogleDocs, Jott, and Diigo.
Are these any good for us in education?   If so, how and why?
What makes them special, or even unique, compared to other products like them.
What is it about these that has caused them to rise to the top?
How might you use one or more of them in a classroom?
One might even question how youd' define each of them.
If you were trying to tell me why I shoudl take the time to look into these, what might you say?

Kicking the tires on Jott - just added teh Twitter from Jott link.   I recorded my first message and it took about 90 seconds to process and post to Twitter (and send me a txt msg telling me it went through   - I have this set but one can turn it off)
