Why is there no Garmin or TomTom-esque dedicated GPS program, besides Maps, that has a more low-down view with an arrow or such to take advantage of the new GPS in the iPhone 3G?
Monday June 9, 2008 3:33 Guest
3:34

Guest, likely we'll see that via the SDK.

[Comment From MarkMark: ]
On Apple's site it says half the price with an asterik - the asterik says it requires a NEW 2 year plan - what about us current iPhone users who already have a (usa) plan. Do we get shafted?
Monday June 9, 2008 3:39 Mark
3:39
ericasadun:
The 3G iPhone requires iTunes 7.7 or later

3:41
[Comment From JordanJordan: ]
I think the thing I'm most curious about with the new iPhone pricing is how existing mid-contract AT&T customers will be treated... If they act like this is every other phone out there, I'm guessing customers would be eligible for a "handset upgrade" somewhere around 12 months after signing up, so long as they extend for another 24. If they ask all existing iPhone owners to wait until their 24 months are up though...
Monday June 9, 2008 3:41 Jordan
3:41
MikeRoseTUAW:

3:43
[Comment From LeeLee: ]
To follow up on Mark's question, I'm a little miffed that they "learned a lot from the iPhone" on my dime, and then trashed it on stage. I would certainly like to see a trade-in program that would allow us "testers" to get a $199 deal also. Any rumblings to that effect?
Monday June 9, 2008 3:43 Lee
3:43
[Comment From TylerTyler: ]
I worked for ATT during iphone launch. When a customer bought an iphone, they went under a 2 year service contract, but a 0 month equipment contract, because they paid full price. If at&t offers a subsidy, then any iphone customer can resign a 2 year and get the new price.
Monday June 9, 2008 3:43 Tyler
3:43
ericasadun:
No, at $199, it's kind of way discounted already

On another note from Lee's pointing to Steve saying they learned a lot, where the hell is MMS and video recording? I was really hoping I wouldnt have to look to a 3rd party to get this when the AppStore goes live...

As a Blackberry addict, I still want a physical keyboard. Any word of 3G or iPhone 2.0 OS allowing the right Bluetooth profiles to allow Bluetooth keyboards? Are "Made for iPhone" manufacturers being allowed to ship Bluetooth drivers? You could do a really nice case with a "thumb board" built in and make Crackberry users like me very happy. I saw the gaming attachment announced this morning - give physical gaming controls via a connection to the dock connector - should be able to do a keyboard that way too if Bluetooth is still locked

Some observations: iPhone 3G: Apple appends something to a product name. That's a first. PowerBook, iMac and other machines all kept their name when they got updated internally and externally. Leading to much confusion. No news on plan pricing in Canada yet. A search for iPhone on the Rogers store, who's going to sell iPhone, yields zero results. Fido (fully owned by Rogers) website is just overwhelmed.
