And the officiating was predictably pro-home team. Bennett Savatore is a official who brings a hot whistle into playoff games where the home team needs a win.

You can say the playoffs are tough and you have to bring your wits and be ready to get hit, but it seems to me that even the slighest extra nudge in an already bad back is completely out of bounds. Thoughts?

You lose your cool, they call a foul, somebody winds up at the line before too long. That's the cost of losing your cool - it's already baked into the penalty system.

But you're right, Tyson has proved that he can handle Duncan 1-on-1. He may get 20, even 25, but he won't take the game over. Manu and / or Parker can take the game over. Let Tyson deal with Duncan, send in Melvin and the bench to foul Duncan hard if Tyson needs a break, but they gotta cover the points. How does the gameplan change if West is just unavailable? Wright is still too rough, Pargo is way too little and Bonzi has been AWOL since game 2. I'm worried.

I'm not sure about the West thing. He caught them off-guard in game 1, but then it took until game 5 for him to break out again. Last night even when he was playing, he was not making the impact that a hot hand from MoPete or Peja, or even Pargo or Wright, could have made. Key to winning without west is to have a surprise coming out party for any single guy, and there are 3 or 4 guys who could have that. If Pargo can get hot early in the 2nd quarter, we've seen what he can do, and it's not like the Spurs are worried about putting a Pargo-stopper into their game 7 template.

SF fan, West just plays his game. When he is knocking down mid-range jumpers, it opens up his dribble-drive game. No one on the Spurs can stop that if he's on.
Friday May 16, 2008 12:26 Jude Young
12:26
Dave Gladow:
I'm leaning toward a similar scenario San Fran -- some decent play early from West to keep us out of a hole, then other guys stepping up to take the pressure off of him.

Yes, but it seems random whether or not he contributes. He's not the slow and steady 25 point guy. He's either 12, or 38. Game 7 is not when you want to take a gamble, so you have to figure out a way to make the odds work in your favor rather than hoping good-dwest shows up.

I was surprised Scott didn't focus more on getting Mo his looks, after the 4 (i think) 3s in the prior game. If they are going to smother Peja and Peja still finds a way to score 15, that still leaves Mo relatively open for his 3s. Frankly I don't see how Bonzi has earned the right to play in game 7. Why should anybody believe he's going to make it work - last few games, he's gone for ridiculous fadeaways that require the jordan touch which he surely doesn't have.

What concerns me the most is that last night, we were taken apart, yet we still kept Parker and Manu out of the paint in general. I'm beginning to think you have to give Manu his points, just keep them 2 pointers. Parker, I'd let him shoot his outside stuff all night long. Can't underestimate how important Tyson's defensive play will be this game - he is often overlooked but is absolutely fundamental to the Hornets gameplan.

Jude Young:
College baseball - for the NCAAs, look for Tulane to make one last trip to the old Box in B.R. while UNO hits the road to Texas for a regional. Just a hunch....

Would you take a Mario Chalmers or a Bill Walker and be happy?   I sure would.

George Pepis:
any of the big 3 UNO Tulane and LSU stand a shot in going deep i think out of the 3 UNO has a legit shot if thijgs break right in regards to the draw to do some serious damage

Draft is stacked because of the new one year college requirment--last year's high school stars had to wait a year.

Dave Gladow:
Yep -- and it benefits the Hornets this year.

Jude Young:
LSU and UNO can win in a 4 team regional. Tulane may not be well equiped even thought Hunt gives them a great first game starter.

Dave Gladow:
I would bet on UNO above the others, but they aren't going to sneak up on anyone this year.   It'll be tougher for them to advance.

Before you go: Has this not been a great year for CP3, the Hornets, New Orleans, no matter...

Jude Young:
Good point, Dave....the starting pitching for UNO has been solid, but the 'pen is still the big ???

Emmanuel Pepis:
i would like to know what happens if UNO does make this deep run they will run into better pitching. Can they win pitching duels if the offense isnt there?

It has been a huge year for the Hornets..and their future here.

Manny, I don't know. LSU might be able to...

Dave Gladow:
Kenny, I think most would say yes -- especially if West can't go or is limited.   Going small with Wright makes more sense than going slow with Bowen.

Emmanuel Pepis:

Yes Kenny even through the mistakes Wright offers more off the bench than M.I.A Jannero, The Bonz, and Eeee-ly's comin'

Wright can be a true impact player in this league -- it's exciting to watch him grow into his game.
