[Comment From MC BonMC Bon: ]
Is it really smart for Pacquiao to move up to 135? I think his ideal fighting weight is closer to 125.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:32 MC Bon
9:33
I agree that 135 is a little big for him, but if he really wants to cement his legacy as one of the all-time great fighters, he's got to move up in weight and find more difficult opponents.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:33
9:33
He's basically cleared the field at 130 and lower; there's just no one good for him to fight anymore.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:33
9:39
[Comment From PKPK: ]
Diaz is too slow for Manny. Pacquiao will win easily.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:39 PK
9:40
Pacquiao is obviously the more skilled, more exciting fighter
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:40
9:40
I wouldn't necessarily say he'll win easily, though.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:40
9:41
If you look at the picture above from yesterday's weigh-in, you can see how Diaz is just a naturally larger person, and I'm going to be curious to see whether Manny's legendary punching power is going to do damage to him.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:41
9:41
[Comment From bazooka banalbazooka banal: ]
i think 135 is a better for him because it is not hard for pacman to lolse more weight and he eats a right meal compare to 130. 135 is the right and comfortable division for manny pacquiao
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:41 bazooka banal
9:42
Another important point to remember is that Manny is 29, turning 30 later this year. Fighters almost always get bigger as they age, and so I can see Manny feeling comfortable at 135 now whereas he wouldn't have a few years ago.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:42

[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
i think manny has the capability to absorb and avoid punches by diaz
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:43 reybacus
9:43
He definitely has the ability to avoid punches.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:43
9:43
He's much quicker than Diaz. The big question is whether he can absorb the punches when Diaz lands them.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:43
9:44
Diaz doesn't have great punching power, but, again, this is the biggest opponent Manny has ever fought.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:44
9:45
Diaz was such a good amateur, Golden Gloves and Olympics, because he lands a lot of punches, but he doesn't have the kind of power you usually see in pro champions.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:45
9:45
[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
yes i thought that one too!i just hope that theres no headbutt in the fight
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:45 reybacus

Yes, it would be very disappointing to see a foul determine the course of this fight.

My prediction is Pacquiao knocks Diaz out in the ninth round.

Manny beats every Mexican he fights and Diaz will be no different.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:49 Fran

His parents are from Mexico, but Diaz was born in the U.S., grew up in Chicago, and represented the U.S. in the Olympics.

[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
its the punch and the boxer himself that counts
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:50 reybacus
9:53
Agreed. I know a lot has been made of Manny fighting a series of Mexican fighters, but I don't really see a lot of significance to it. There are a lot of good Mexican fighters in the 125-135 pound range, so it's natural that Pacquaio has fought a lot of them. Sometimes fans let their nationalistic pride go too far, but I've always been impresed with the respect that Manny shows for his opponents.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:53
9:53
[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
thats a relief to read that kind of prediction, i really hope manny wins, betting here in the philippines is 10-4 or 10-3 for manny, hehe
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:53 reybacus
9:53
Yeah, the betting in Vegas has been solidly in Manny's favor, too.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:53
9:54
I live in Chicago, and even in Diaz's home town I don't hear many people who think he's going to beat Manny.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:54
9:54
[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
if diaz got a game plan, may i ask what it is?
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:54 reybacus
9:55
To me, if Diaz wants to win what he needs to do is stay in close range, clutch a lot, and basically turn it into more of a brawl and less of a technical battle.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:55
9:57
[Comment From GillGill: ]
Has Manny had any success against southpaws?
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:57 Gill
9:59
Well, as Recah Trinidad wrote today, the first time in Pacquiao's career that he ever got knocked out was from a left hook by Rustico Torrecampo, a southpaw.
Saturday June 28, 2008 9:59
9:59

Saturday June 28, 2008 10:00

To me, it all depends on what Diaz brings.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:00

10:01
I think Manny needs to take greater advantage of his quickness.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:01

i hope Manny can maintain his speed and power to lightweight division
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:03 Guest
10:04
That's the big question. He was so much more physically gifted, in terms of his punching power, than anyone else in the 120, 125, 130-pound range. Will he maintain that dominance at 135?
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:04
10:04
[Comment From reybacusreybacus: ]
mannys know what at stake so he will be very carefull all through out.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:04 reybacus

Also, I know Manny started a lot smaller than 120.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:05
10:05
I never saw him there, though.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:05
10:06
If any of our readers saw him when he was fighting at 107 or 112, I'd love to hear what he looked like then. He must have been a skeleton -- a skeleton with amazing punching power.

It isn't a big jump from 130lb to 135lb. when paquiao was in junior lightweight, during fight night he fights around 138-145lbs. so i don't think it'l take anything from him

this is a good question..How will manny manage this division at 135lbs?
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:08 kirk
10:10
Joel Casamayor will fight Juan Manuel Marquez in September.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:10
10:10
That will have a lot to do with where the 135-pound division goes next.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:10
10:10
I think there's a pretty good chance that Pacquiao will fight the winner.
Saturday June 28, 2008 10:10

Either a third Marquez fight or a Casamayor fight, which would be great.

Now that Pacquiao and Marquez are moving up to lightweight, I think Soto might be the best junior lightweight in the world.

So, 9,500 tickets isn't bad, but it's also a little disappointing that it's not a sellout.

Pacquiao has never been shy about fighting in enemy territory -- he has taken on Mexican fighters in Las Vegas, San Antonio and Los Angeles, all places where Mexican fighters have big fan bases.
