Ducks looked very sharp. Handled Mr. Marcus I'm-going-to-the-NBA Smart pretty well.

Oregon-Saint Louis tip set for 4:10 p.m. PT Saturday here in San Jose.

Adam Jude:
That was my first time seeing Marcus Smart up close and I have to say, didn't scream top NBA talent to me. Impressive defensive effort from Artis and Loyd, no doubt.

GREAT WIN; now we have to move on to Saint Louis! Keep on running!!!

[Comment From ACAC: ]
Given that the scouting report on Saint Louis is that they push to force turnovers, how do you see this playing out with Oregon's turnover heavy roster?
Friday March 22, 2013 12:02 AC
12:03
Adam Jude:
Great point. Altman brought up the turnovers pretty quickly during the postgame press conference. He HATES them, trust me.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:03 Adam Jude
12:03
Adam Jude:
The Ducks probably can't afford 18 turnovers against a really good defensive team like Saint Louis.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:03 Adam Jude
12:04
Adam Jude:
That said, it will probably be an ugly game. Ugly meaning a defensive slugfest. That's how Saint Louis likes it, and Oregon has had some success in those sorts of games this season, too.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:04 Adam Jude
12:04
[Comment From ACAC: ]
Probably can't afford shooting in the high 30's (%) either
Friday March 22, 2013 12:04 AC
12:04
The Oregonian:
My question: Will everyone remember to put on their jerseys before tipoff tomorrow?
Friday March 22, 2013 12:04 The Oregonian
12:04
Adam Jude:
Well, they can afford to shoot 39 percent if they dominate the boards like they did. I'd expect Oregon to have a rebounding edge again, but not as decisive as it was vs. OK St.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:04 Adam Jude
12:05
Adam Jude:
Also, Oregon missed a number of easy layups yesterday. Definitely can't keep missing those.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:05 Adam Jude
12:05
[Comment From BrandonBrandon: ]
Oregon players do a very good job don't think about the turnovers after they commit it. They ALWAYS seems they shake it off; they move on the the defense side of the floor!
Friday March 22, 2013 12:05 Brandon
12:05
The Oregonian:
Tough to watch Arsalan miss from three feet and closer. ...
Friday March 22, 2013 12:05 The Oregonian
12:06
Adam Jude:
And the Ducks aren't usually hurt as most teams by their turnovers because they're better than most (and No. 1 in the Pac-12) in steals. It almost evens out.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:06 Adam Jude
12:06
[Comment From BrandonBrandon: ]
They can shoot 39% and win they rebound and force turnovers aka Oklahoma State.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:06 Brandon
12:06
The Oregonian:
Clearly.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:06 The Oregonian
12:06
[Comment From ACAC: ]
Tony Woods and Waverly Austin are going to have their hands full with St. Louis's very talented big man. Can't pick up early fouls and force the Ducks to go small.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:06 AC
12:08
Adam Jude:
Yes, the 6-11 Rob Loe stood out to me in their first game vs. New Mexico State. He's talented and moves well. But I don't consider that a huge mismatch against Oregon. Woods and Austin should be able to do some things.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:08 Adam Jude
12:08
[Comment From BrandonBrandon: ]
Ben Carter will play couple minutes of each half to give them rest time.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:08 Brandon
12:09
Adam Jude:
Ben Carter has been playing very well lately. At this point, he looks like Oregon's starting PF next season (though there could be a talented freshman coming into that role, too).

If kazemi continues to play like he did yesterday, could the ducks make a deep run in the tournament?
Friday March 22, 2013 12:09 wismer
12:10
Adam Jude:
I've said it for awhile now that Kazemi is the X-factor in every game. If he shows up and plays well, the Ducks have been virtually unbeatable.

Adam Jude:
But they have won 16 of 17 now, winning the Atlantic-10 regular season and tournament titles. They are legitimately a top-15 team in the nation. Tough, tough, tough dudes.

Educk is also not reporting a visit to Eugene by Aaron Gordon. This could be a concern, no?
Friday March 22, 2013 12:12 AC
12:13
Adam Jude:
We did not see him at the game, but Artis said he was planning to be there. I had heard rumblings that Gordon attended an Oregon practice here in San Jose on Tuesday night.

The Oregonian:
From Wiki: The Billiken was a charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Florence Pretz of St. Louis, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream.

12:14
Adam Jude:
As far as the visit, I'm not sure that's a huge deal. I think Oregon is very much in the final two or three for Gordon -- and there are some who believe he will indeed commit to the Ducks.

Wisconsin is a great comp. If you're an opponent, you hate to play against these guys. They make you earn everything.
Friday March 22, 2013 12:15 Adam Jude
12:15
Adam Jude:
I think the Ducks have a great shot. I wasn't convinced they could beat OK St -- I picked the Cowboys in my bracket, actually -- but my hunch is Oregon's going to pull off a tight one tomorrow.

The Billiken was created in 1908, and, apparently also is confused with a Kewpie, which was created in 1909. Sad that I know kind of know this.
