Live Blog: Hornets vs. Mavs (Game 2)(04/22/2008)
6:25
Dave Gladow:
Well, wee off to a bit of a late start tonight, but the Saints kept me -- too much draft info to disect this time of year!

Glad to see the Hornets are off to a good start tonight however ... and so are the fans!   Dirk Nowitzki just fell down on a phantom foul at the three-point line, making everyone in here boo him even more than they had last game.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:25 Dave Gladow
6:26
Dave Gladow:
Of course, my girlfriend dubbed him a "Deutsch-bag" after that game, and it may be a moniker that sticks.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:26 Dave Gladow
6:27
Dave Gladow:
Peja with the 3 and the fans go bonkers!   27-19 Hornets with 2:52 left in the first!

Looks like the traps are failing terribly for the mavs so far.

Dave Gladow:
Paul with seven assists so far ... he's definitely finding the open man!
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:31 Dave Gladow
6:33
Dave Gladow:
Man, three buzzer beaters to end the first!
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:33 Dave Gladow
6:34
Dave Gladow:
Pargo with a 3, Dallas answers with its own 3, then Paul beats everyone downcourt for a running jumper to end the quarter.

End of 1st:   Hornets 39, Mavs 29.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:34 Dave Gladow
6:38
Dave Gladow:
Paul is having his way ... the Dallas defense looks dejected ... and helpless.   I wonder if they feel like they've blown their chance at stealing one already.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:38 Dave Gladow
6:41
Dave Gladow:
They remind me of myself playing college intramurals ... the game was always over shortly after tipoff, and not in a good way.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:41 Dave Gladow

Dave Gladow:
Paul checked out of the game with 6 points and 8 assists -- Noice!
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:41 Dave Gladow

Dave Gladow:
Nice move by Wells on the steal, then did a great job of creating contact in the lane.

Dave Gladow:
I just wish his free throw shooting was better...
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:42 Dave Gladow

Dave Gladow:
If I'm Dallas, I trap everyone NOT named Chris Paul.   Bonzi just turned it over after a little presure along the baseline.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:44 Dave Gladow
6:46
Dave Gladow:
Major factor in Game 1: lack of scoring from Jason Terry.   He's got 3 so far tonight -- if the Hornets can keep him from going off they'll be much better off.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:46 Dave Gladow

I'm in class, Dave, and I can't watch the game! How's TC looking so far, and is he staying out of foul trouble?
Tuesday April 22, 2008 6:48 John
6:48
Dave Gladow:
TC has a patented jam or two off the alley oop and 8 points so far.   No fouls. :)

West has two, and Howard and Dampier have two each for Dallas.

Dave Gladow:
Gotta love the way New Orleans is just stepping on Dallas' throat, but I think the Mavs' lack of focus and effort is rather apparent in this one.   They look very content to go back to Dallas down 0-2.

West with 18 at the half.

Pargo and Bonzi with two steals apiece ... nice to see them bring hustle on defense.

Combination of both.   Peja and Mo-Pete are on fire, but the Mavs just don't seem to have enough energy ... especially on defense.   They're letting CP3 dictate the game.
Tuesday April 22, 2008 7:52 Dave Gladow

That's a good question ... that's not one I'm familiar with, but I'm sure their record is ridiculous when scoring 100.

Sorry, lost that one in the shuffle.

Absolutely the Hornets can take one in Dallas.   I'm not ready to call for a sweep, but Dallas just can't match up with this team over 7 games.   Homecourt will be tough to overcome for the Hornets, but they're simply the better team, so yes, they can take one.
