If/When the Mets put David Wright on the trading block, do you see the Dodgers going after him? And what would a potential prospect package look like?

3:03
Ben Nicholson-Smith:
First things first... it sounds like he and the Mets are working hard toward a new deal. But if they don't work something out, then the Dodgers would be a great fit.

Any chance Justin Upton gets traded to Atlanta?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:03 Jordan

Ben Nicholson-Smith:
For now it sounds as though the Braves are focused on center fielders, including Justin's older brother. But if that doesn't materialize, I can see the Diamondbacks sending him to Atlanta.

Do the Dodgers sign Greinke? If so are they favorite to win West?

Ben Nicholson-Smith:
I think they're the most likely destination for Greinke at this point. They have the need and the money. Plus, the Angels are reportedly backing off of Greinke at this point (though they need him too in my view).

GM Byrnes has indicated that the Padres are looking for two SPs- one through a trade and one in FA. Who do you think the Padres are likely targeting in a trade?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:05 Tim
3:06
Ben Nicholson-Smith:
I expect the Padres are playing the waiting game to an extent. I wonder if they might inquire on pitchers like Brett Anderson, Ubaldo Jimenez and Rick Porcello in trade talks (my speculation).

Do I stay put or end up somewhere else?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:06 Dexter Fowler
3:06
Ben Nicholson-Smith:
I think it's likely Fowler stays put. He's clearly drawing trade interest, and would be a fit in Atlanta and other places. But ultimately he's quite a valuable player and the Rockies might prefer to attempt to lock him up long-term.

I expect Ellsbury to stay put this winter. If the Red Sox do move him then the Giants would be one potential fit for sure.

Trevor Bauer going anywhere soon? Any guess what the asking price is?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:08 Hendo
3:09
Ben Nicholson-Smith:
The Diamondbacks will listen on basically all of their players, Bauer included. But these things can be overblown at times. I think a pitcher with his kind of upside who still has so many years of big league control is going to be tough to part with. Teams will be interested if the Diamondbacks are indeed serious about trading him though. The Rockies, for one, would have to inquire.

If you were the GM of the Giants who would you be going after in free agency or on the trade market?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:09 Guest

Ben Nicholson-Smith:
Scutaro is a fit at second base, so I would like to see them bring him back. As for center field, I'd be interested in players such as B.J. Upton, Bourn, Ellsbury, Fowler and Josh Hamilton (though whether Hamilton is a center fielder going forward is debatable).

Do you see the Rockies getting any real pitching help this year?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:12 Matt

Ben Nicholson-Smith:
They have to. There's no way they can start the 2013 season without having added to their pitching staff in a meaningful way. That Jeff Francis led the team with 113 innings says a lot about how much uncertainty exists on that staff.

There have been some tweets today suggesting the Dodgers would indeed be a fit for Wilson if the Giants non-tender him. That said, I don't expect the Giants to offer him arbitration.

Could the WS champs be the dark horse for Hamilton if Pagan signs elsewhere?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:15 Guest

Ben Nicholson-Smith:
I do think the Giants could be a dark horse for Hamilton. Ultimately there's no easy spot where you say 'that's where Hamilton is going.' So that means there's room for an unexpected suitor to emerge and win the bidding. Greinke, on the other hand, seems like an obvious fit for teams like the Dodgers, Angels and Rangers.

The Indians would want young pitching, presumably. So these two clubs actually match up reasonably well in that sense. Seems like a deal that could be an option for these clubs.

Isn't now the time to extend Headley? If he repeats 2012 in 2013, he'll be priced out of SD; hence, an extension now keeps him in SD and makes him a potential bargain. Thoughts?
Wednesday November 28, 2012 3:21 Marver
3:22
Ben Nicholson-Smith:
I would probably wait another season and see if he can do it again. However, like you say, the Padres wouldn't be able to sign him long-term a year from now if he repeats his 2012 numbers. So it's a risk. I would just be quite cautious about any long-term deals with such a small payroll.
