On the radio pregame, Ron Darling gave an account of his most memorable moment. He finished his stint pitching with a broken thumb, had to drive himself to the ER, and as he was about to drive off, Terry Pendleton hit a game-winning HR, and dented his door. The Cardinals went on to win it all.

It's rare for a team with a record as strong as the Mets' to have a pitcher lose six straight starts. That's just what Mike Pelfrey did early in the season.

But since Memorial Day, he's been among the league's best, going 10-2 with a 3.17 ERA. His last two starts, both wins, have included a seven-inning scoreless game and a complete game.

He gets by with control; he won't strike or walk many batters. And in his last 17 starts, he's only given up a home run in two of them.

Darin Erstad, Ty Wigginton and Miguel Tejada lead it off for the Astros. If any of those three gets on and Wiggy and Tejada stay out of DPs, Lance Berkman will hit this inning.

Berkman has three extra-base hits in seven ABs against Pelfrey.

A line drive out by Darin Erstad, and we're under way.

Geeeeeez, I know the Astros, my team, too well! The Astros as usual feel guilty in winning a series against a contender, the Mets, and feel obligated to give-up game (4). As I predicted, Moehler gave-up 3 runs in the (1)st inning. If the Astros were down (2) games to (1)in the series, Moehler would-of pitched a masterpiece and won! Like clockwork, the Stros are so predictable. They need to hire a psychologist to improve their mental toughness.

If faced with that choice down 4-0 100 times, I'd probably walk Wright 99 of those times. But it didn't pay as Delgado got behind 0-2 and came back with a three-run shot to center on a 1-2 fastball.

(The one time I didn't walk him, I probably would have hit him.)

Wags, that's a very hard question about Rule 5 picks, because it's so hard to figure the cost. You can measure the 50K to get the player and you can measure his salary, but it's hard to put in proper terms the cost of keeping someone who may not be ready on the 25-man roster the entire season.

Not quite the end, still one more inning to go, as Mike Pelfrey goes for his second straight complete game. He has a good look at it with 96 pitches.

The Astros have hit into a double play three times today, their seventh time doing that this year.

Could be worse. The White Sox have done that 12 times.
