FAU vs. WKU(05/21/2008)
9:56
Good morning denizens of Owl Country. Time to refill the coffee mug, settle into your cubicle, be grateful for central air, and prepare for FAU vs. WKU in the opening round of the Sun Belt tourney.

Wednesday May 21, 2008 9:56
9:57
OK, let's start with a simple question. Will FAU win this game?
Yes
 ( 78% )
No
 ( 22% )

Wednesday May 21, 2008 9:57
9:59
not much going on at Tigue Moore field at the moment, other than both teams lined up on the baselines for the national anthem.
looks like about, 3, maybe 4 fans in the stands. what do you expect from a 9 a.m. game?

OK, that smiling face belongs to FAU starter Jeff Beliveau. He's a lefty who Cooney said is one of the top pitchers in the Belt, but at 4-3 he did not get any luv when it came to all-conference.
well, owlradio, it doesn't get much bigger than this. FAU has to avoid the loser's braker.

10:04
here's the problem with Beliveau -- WALKS. he has walking more than one batter per inning (73 walks, 71 innings). he nibbles around the plate. he's the kind of pitcher that will add years to a coaches' life.

 first pitch

Cooney doesn't have many options. He has to hope Beliveau got the bad out of his system and can give him some more innings.
You do not want to put the game into the hands of this bullpen.

There is no free pass to Omaha. The Belt will probably only have one team in a regional, then they have to win a regional, then a super regional, to be one of 8 teams in the world series.

two reasons why FAU has been pretty bad since losing to UM -- Top middle reliever Adam Morrison and closer Glenn Troyanowski both were hurt in that game and are only now able to go again.

 Final thoughts:
Can't fault Cooney for stickinig with Beliveau. He's been reliable and my guess is Cooney figured he would get back into a groove.
If Cooney had known how good Kloess was going to be, maybe he pulls Beliveau earlier.
 Marvelous performance by Kloess.
Where was the offense? Geez. Ridings was good, but FAU never got a big hit, and struck out at key times.
The offense has to show up tomorrow.

Thanks all who tuned in and participated. We'll be doing it again tomorrow. Same time, same place.

Take care and have a great rest of the day...

Later..
