I'll agree with that -- 9 times out of 10, when this team is having issues, it's because the defense is lagging.

On the other hand, the offense has let the team down in losses to defensive stalwarts like Utah and Detroit.

Again, I mostly agree. The Clippers are shooting 50 percent, but that's more to their credit than because of any New Orleans defensive deficiencies. Maggette got bailed out a couple of times, but that can happen with just about anyone. Sometimes a guy gets the calls.

There are definitely some exceptions to the rule (like Detroit), but that has been an interesting phenomenon. I chalk it up to the team being so new to winning basketball. Typically teams on the rise don't have the killer instinct the more established teams do.
