In his latest update, CBS3 meteorologist Mike Skurko writes, "A few light snowflakes have been spotted across western Massachusetts just before sunrise, but the main event will not be getting started for a few more hours. Expected a coating of snow to develop later this morning."

Greg Saulmon:
There's been an interesting debate surrounding The Weather Channel's decision to name winter storms for the 2012-2013 season. They're the organization that named this storm "Nemo". This was a statement the National Weather Service released in October:

"The National Weather Service has no opinion about private weather enterprise products and services. A winter storm's impact can vary from one location to another, and storms can weaken and redevelop, making it difficult to define where one ends and another begins. While the National Weather Service does not name winter storms, we do rate major winter storms after the fact."

Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rick Sullivan tells NECN that if there are outages, utilities will not begin recovery efforts until after the storm ends, and that people should plan to be without power for "several days" if the lights do go out. Sullivan says communication with utilities has been "really good":

From George Graham:

State police Sgt. Alan Joubert said state Department of Transportation personnel have pre-treated Interstate 91 and Interstate 291 this morning and that motorists may notice the roadways look wet. Sara Lavoie, spokeswoman for DOT, said late last month that the state has begun using salt brine to pre-treat major roadways. She said it has proven to be a more efficient anti-icer than the liquid magnesium chloride that it has been using for the past five years or so.
