Today is a critical game for the Kentucky Wildcats--not quite so critical for Arkansas, but important, nonetheless.  Kentucky stands at 14-10 (8-3) on the season, and is clinging to hopes of an at-large NCAA bid with at least a second place finish in the SEC this season.

In other UK news, John Cohen's baseball team is playing its season opening in Mobile, Alabama, playing Xavier.  Kentucky leads Xavier 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning.

UK is 5-0 in Rupp Arena during conference play this year, 3-3 on the road.  The Cats have averaged playing 15 points per game better at home than on the road (8 points more on offense, 7 points more on defense.)
Saturday February 23, 2008 12:39
12:40
Make that 7 points less on defense, of course.
Saturday February 23, 2008 12:40
12:42
The boys in Vegas have the Cats a 3-point favorite for today's game, virtually a toss-up.

Today, Kentucky will take on Xavier (Ohio) at 11 a.m., Xavier plays Fairfield at 2:30, and the Jags open their season at 6 p.m. against Fairfield, all at Stanky Field.

Three more games will be played Sunday, including USA against Xavier at 11 a.m. and the Jags against UK at 2:30 p.m., both at Stanky Field.

Few games of interest on the slate today:

# 2 Tennessee @ # 1 Memphis.  Would love to see the Vols win that one, but don't think they will.

12:54
Ole Miss is @ LSU.  The Rebels temporarily stopped their free-fall into the NIT with a win at home over Mississippi State, but their record is so poor in the conference, this one could do them in.

I think LSU takes that one.

Word is that Meeks' injury is just taking a long time to heal.  A hip flexor injury is not supposed to be played on, actually, until it's "ready," as I understand it.  Aggravating it can result in further, longer rehab time.

Yeah, was fueling my post off your prior comment about Omaha. Will be good to play against some Omaha caliber competition. Although, i think UL benefited a lot from "the luck of the draw" last year more than anything. That, plus their bats were hot at the right time of the year

UL may not have been one of the top eight teams last year, but no doubt, they were hot at the end of the year last year.

The SEC is even more interesting because the SEC baseball tournament only fields the top eight teams from the conference.  The SEC has sent teams to the NCAA tournament before that failed to make their own conference tournament, which tells you just how strong the conference actually is.
