Do the Mariners extend Felix this off season?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:02 Jacob
4:03
I don't think they will but I do think this is the time to get it done. You don't want him getting close to free agency and then have him thinking about a huge payday on the open market.

What shortstop do you see being the most likely for the A's? Drew, Nakajima, Diaz, Gregorius, Cozart, Cabrera
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:03 Casey
4:04
Of those guys I'll say Drew, but I think they'll wind up trading for Yunel Escobar.

What are the odds of the Angels signing Grienke?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:04 Angelfan1
4:05
I still think they're very good. I know a report came out the other day saying they were no longer considered the favorites, but I think they a) gave up too much to get him (both at the deadline and by cutting ties with Haren and Santana), and b) have the most to lose by not signing him.

[Comment From Tommy ZTommy Z: ]
Do the Rangers trade Elvis and start Profar in his place?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:05 Tommy Z
4:05
I think they'll start the year with Andruw at SS and Profar in Triple-A.

Why are the Astros not on the Vote to win the Division? I know they're bad but c'mon hahah
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:06 Cody
4:06
Ha! I forgot they were moving over to the division. Still ... I think we can live with the poll the way it is.

I could see something along those lines.

Is Grant Green a legit contender for the Oakland SS job?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:06 JJ

I don't think so. He seems like a CF more than anything else at this point.

[Comment From B.S. BluesB.S. Blues: ]
Even if the Lopez deal is off -- for now -- the question remains: Who closes for the Astros in 2013? Or does anbyody care?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:07 B.S. Blues
4:08
I bet they sign a scrap heap closer, someone they can flip at the trade deadline. K-Rod? Capps?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:08
4:08
[Comment From HutchHutch: ]
Swisher seems to be a perfect fit to M's needs (switch-hitting, vet RF/1B). Can the M's outbid the Bostons of the world?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:08 Hutch
4:08
Yeah I think they can if they really want too. They just have to add the proverbial one extra year.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:08
4:08
[Comment From G-MANG-MAN: ]
Rangers rotation the past couple years. Prove me wrong but i think the rotation is overrated and overachieving. Adding Greinke enough?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:08 G-MAN
4:10
I don't think underachieving might be a better word. Darvish was very good and Harrison is very underrated, but Holland was a disappointment and so was Oswalt. Feliz got hurt and Feldman wasn't anything special. They have the high-end SP already, I'd look to add more depth if I was them. Obviously Greinke makes every team better.

[Comment From adamadam: ]
any chance angels go after david wright or ra dickey?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:10 adam
4:11
I don't think Wright will be traded but I can definitely see them going after Dickey. The Mets want a young CF and C, and the Angels have Bourjos and Conger to offer.

[Comment From BorisBoris: ]
Tough to predict, but, how big of a step backwards does Mike Trout take? Seems bound to happen right?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:11 Boris
4:12
Yes but that doesn't mean he'll stink. I think he might be headed for an early-career A-Rod path. A-Rod was out of this world in 1996, then dropped off to merely excellent in subsequent years. Trout is great, but I don't think he's a 10+ WAR year-in and year-out.

How important do you think it is for the Ms to do something sooner rather than later in the offseason? I, for one, am getting impatient.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:12 LongTimeSufferingMsFan
4:12
I think it's very important. I think this is Jack Z's last stand.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:12
4:12
[Comment From ChipChip: ]
After the Madson signing... who's got the best bullpen in the division? I think there's an argument to be made for just about every team, but it's really close. My biased vote goes to the Mariners with Capps/Pryor/Furbush/Luetge leading into Wilhelmsen, but I can't see a wrong choice (besides the Astros).
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:12 Chip
4:13
Right now I would probably take the Athletics but could see the argument for the Mariners or Angels.

Two questions: 1. what are you thoughts on jeff bagwell and craig biggo making the HOF. 2. Is Bo Porter as baseball smart. As what reports about him are true?? thanks
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:13 LJ
4:14
Biggio and Bagwell are no-doubt first ballot Hall of Famers for me. Everyone says Bo Porter is a smart guy and highly-regarded, so I'll defer to them.

What kind of return can the astros get for Lowrie?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:14 @EDUBMora74
4:15
Quite a bit I bet. Drew is the only good free agent shortstop and with the Rangers unlikely to trade Andrus/Profar, he might be the best SS on the market. He can't stay healthy, but 100 games of him is better than 150 games of the alternatives.

[Comment From StevenSteven: ]
How many Starting pitchers do you think the Angels will need to sign?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:15 Steven
4:15
They need to sign about three, in my opinion. Weaver and Wilson (coming off minor elbow surgery), then it's ... Williams? Richards? Enright? That's not enough to make a serious run at contention.

Does Lopez get traded before winter meetings are over?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:16 @EDUBMora74
4:16
Wilton? I don't think so. Sounds like there's something up with his medicals. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN noted yesterday that his physical was not a slam-dunk and that several teams backed off after reviewing his medicals already.

Do the Mariners trade two of the big three to get a bat?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:17 Mike
4:18
I assume the big three is Ackley, Smoak, and Montero. I can definitely see Smoak being dealt, but not the other two. Smoak doesn't have much value right now.

[Comment From JKJK: ]
Which are the Angels coveting more: starting pitching, or relief pitching?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:19 JK
4:19
Sounds like they're trying to boost both, honestly. We've heard more about their pursuit of relievers than starters though.

Greinke, maybe a deal for another starter as well.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:20
4:20
[Comment From JKJK: ]
Is there any reasonable scenario in which the Angels trade Peter Bourjos?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:20 JK
4:21
Yeah I think so, they'd have to get a good starter in return though. I'm not much of a Bourjos fan, I wouldn't label him anything close to untouchable.

Feliz and olt for Ellsbury? Who says no?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:22 Benny C

[Comment From DrewDrew: ]
I've heard Brett Anderson come up as a trade possibility for a team like the Padres, would it make sense for the As to trade him?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:22 Drew
4:23
I love Brett Anderson but he can not stay healthy. They have a ton of young arms and I'd be open to moving him if I was them. I wouldn't be aggressively shopping him or anything, but he wouldn't be off-limits.

How do I replace Josh Hamilton's stats without the strikeouts and injuries?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:23 Nolan Ryan
4:24
You can't replace Hamilton, so don't worry about it. Add a good 1B and C, hope Cruz stays healthy and Kinsler hits like he did in 2011.

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:24 Guest

4:26
[Comment From CharlesCharles: ]
The Rangers seem to have lost most of their bullpen (Ogando to the rotation and Koji and Adams don't seem like priorities to resign), is that going to be a weaknees in 2013?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:26 Charles
4:26
Yes it could be. They've started stockpiling arms on minor league deals, but they need a little more certainty in the later innings behind Nathan.

[Comment From MikeMike: ]
MIke trout for Felix hernandez. Perfect trade.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:26 Mike

The Angels would say no, as they should. It's five years of Trout vs. two (at $20M) for Felix.

[Comment From HarryHarry: ]
Which Jemile Weeks shows up this year, 2011 or 2012?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:27 Harry
4:27
I have absolutely no idea. I don't think he's as good as he was in 2011 or as bad as he was in 2012. He can run, but I question the bat.

[Comment From JakeJake: ]
If contracts were not a factor, how much value would Mike Trout fetch in return in a trade?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:28 Jake
4:29
Could any team realistically put together a package good enough? I guess the Giants could offer Posey and Bumgarner, but that ain't happening. No one in baseball has more trade value than Trout right now.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:29
4:29
[Comment From SeattleSeattle: ]
Do we actually add an impact bat this offseason?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:29 Seattle
4:30
Depends on your definition of impact, I suppose. Of Swisher, Hamilton, and Napoli, I think Hamilton is the most realistic. I think Swisher winds up in Texas and Napoli in Boston.

I really think Yoenis Cespedes doesn't get enough attention. What do you see his 2013 season looking like?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:30 Connor
4:31
Similar to his 2011 but hopefully with more games played. He's a lot better than I thought he'd be, at least right away. Expected more swings and misses.
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:31
4:31
[Comment From JebJeb: ]
What would an extension look like for Trout if LAA offered one?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:31 Jeb
4:32
Would 10/110 work? The annual breakdown could be 1-1-3-6-9-13-15-18-18-18 plus another $8M in signing bonus/buyout.

Mike Olt for Oscar Tavares?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:37 Harry

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:37 JD

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:38 Guest

[Comment From BrianBrian: ]
I think Craig Gentry is going to make a player and that the risk to find out makes more sense than trading a shortstop. Do you think they'll give him a shot?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:39 Brian
4:39
I think they'll continue to his him as a platoon bat. He can hit lefties and play defense, but that's really it.

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:43 Jeff

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:44 Nick

I wouldn't go to that park if I was looking to rebuild value. Haren's a big time fly ball guy, Arlington's not a good place for him to pitch.

Thursday November 29, 2012 4:45 Louis

I don't think it'll happen. The Royals seems to want an established high-end SP and the Mariners don't really have that outside of Felix.

Would Haren to Houston make some sense on a 1 year, plus option with massive incentives? I'd like it and see if we couldn't get him back going
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:47 Josh
4:47
Same problem with Texas, it's a hitter's park. I'd head straight to Petco if I were him.

Is Josh Donaldson a real deal 3B starter? Looked awesome at the end of the season...
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:47 Aaron

I'm not buying it. I think the Athletics will sign Youkilis to bounce between third, first, and DH.

Tommy Hanson + Teheran for Mark Trumbo
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:48 Mike S

Giving up far too much, plus Trumbo in LF in that park would be a disaster.

No. We heard that about some big free agent every winter and it never matters.

Jesus Montero = somewhere around .2750/.350/.450 with 20-25 HR in 2012-13?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:49 josbun808
4:49
Might be a little high on the OBP, but I could see .275/.330/.450 with 25 HR next year.

Around how many games do you see Montero starting at catcher?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:51 Brandon

Fewer than 30. They don't see to think he's a catcher, and they're not along.

Would a Brandon McCarthy reunion be a good thing for the Texas rotation? Or do you think they will try to go after Zack G?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:51 Mason from Dallas

I think McCarthy would work out well for Texas, though he is a guarantee to get hurt every year.

Houston's first DH?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:52 Thome

I could definitely see it being Berkman. If he hadn't won his ring with STL, then he probably would have looked for a contender. He's got his ring and can now just go home to Houston and chill out.

40 HR & 100RBI's in 2013?
Thursday November 29, 2012 4:53 Josh Reddick
4:53
I'll bet the under. I worry that pitchers figured him out a bit in the second half, hence the massive slump. Also, Oakland isn't exactly a 40+ HR type of park.

Crisp by far. The Nats just traded for Span, so forget them. The Marlins, Mets, Royals, Rays, Braves, Phillies, could all be fits.

It won't be the offseason, you'll have to win in the regular season regardless of the moves. They need like two bats to make some noise.
