Hi Steve, what are your thoughts on Joe G's take on Marte's elbow inflammation
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:04 Jabu
9:05
Standard Op Procedure from General Joe.   Eventually, the reporters will learn and just stop asking him - and just go right to the players.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:05
9:06
So, what do you all think - are the Yankees making the post-season?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:06
9:06
[Comment From JabuJabu: ]
giant question mark
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:06 Jabu
9:07
Agreed.   A week from now, we'll know a lot more.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:07

[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
on a scale of one to ten, ten being the likeliest, i'd go with a 2.87
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:07 RayBlay
9:08
True.   I'd give them a seven - if they were only 2 back in the WC...but, they're not
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:08
9:08
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
Do you see next season as an improvement over this one, sort of like what we expected of this year, or even worse since we're losing so many vets?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:08 RayBlay
9:09
Depends on how they handle the starting rotation and 1B.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:09
9:09
[Comment From CoreyCorey: ]
Hey Steve! I think the Yanks have an oppurtunity to play well against Boston this week, they will be facing wakefield and byrd, the latter of which giambi feasts off of
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:09 Corey
9:09
True.   But Ponson is pitching one of the games too.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:09
9:09
[Comment From JabuJabu: ]
this season is quite disappointing so far on multiple fronts. the draft debacle kind of ended my optimism
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:09 Jabu
9:10
Yeah, but, they probably won't feel that until 3 years from now.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:10
9:10
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
What do you think the chances are, then, that Pettitte and Moose continue to be reliable?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:10 RayBlay
9:11
50-50 - at best....because the other guys are Ponson, Rasner and Pavano

[Comment From CoreyCorey: ]
do you know who the 3rd Sox starter is? I don't recall
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:11 Corey

Sunday August 24, 2008 9:11 Jabu

Sunday August 24, 2008 9:12
9:12
[Comment From LeahLeah: ]
I think the Yankees still have a chance. A small one, though. My question: What are your thoughts on David Robertson? He was pretty dominant when he was first called up, but he has recently been shaky.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:12 Leah
9:13
Growing pains.   From most reports, he's the real deal.   I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot to come back next year - maybe as the 6th or 7th inning guy.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:13
9:13
[Comment From MaxMax: ]
i think as long as we have more games against the team were behind (red sox- 6 more games) than games youre behind (5), i think we still have a good shot

Sunday August 24, 2008 9:13 Eric

i've been meaning to ask, even though next season is a long time from now, do you have any interest in havin a fantasy baseball league for WW? Like yahoo? or some other means if preferred
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:14 Corey
9:15
Nah.   I ran a fantasy baseball league from 1989 through 2000 - and I'm burned out on it now.

speaking of people getting resigned, what about Abreu
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:16 Brian

[Comment From JabuJabu: ]
Edwar has not been effective of late, he always posed a big question for me even when he did well, do you think the Yanks will bring up Melancon to aid the BP?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:17 Jabu
9:17
Perhaps after 9/1.   But, I doubt before that time.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:17
9:17
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
are there any free agent CFers to sign?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:17 RayBlay
9:18
Not that I recall.   It's going to have to be Gardner, rush Jackson, rebound Melky, or a trade.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:18
9:18
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
maybe Damon can move full-time to 1B?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:18 RayBlay
9:18
I wish - because, to me, it makes sense.   I've written about it before.   But, I doubt that it happens.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:18
9:19
[Comment From BenBen: ]
I hope we sign Ben Sheets instead of C.C. who is too large to stay healthy.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:19 Ben
9:19
But, Sheets is brittle too.

Why are you surprised? Did you think he was cooked? or is he just moody? I am starting Feinstein's book this week
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:19 Jabu
9:20
That book has turned me into more of a fan of Mussina.   I'm just about done with it.   Before reading it, I had a different option of him
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:20
9:20
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
I don't think you should be shocked about your sentiments on Moose. From what I knew of him the past few years, all I saw were the post-game interviews, where he speaks slowly and doesn't say much. This ST he seemed completely different, with personality, and IDK if it was Joe T, but I love the fact that he's comfortable being himself. Remember the "window" and the whiteboard? That's the real Moose and that's why we're rooting for him.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:20 RayBlay
9:20
[Comment From MaxMax: ]
I dont think so, thats why i put lies in quotes. I dont mind that Joe wants to withhold the info, but i think for his sake (mostly to avoid annoying the beat witers) he should simply say "i dont want to talk about that" not "hes fine". Although jeter goes the "im fine" route and no one has a problem with it
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:20 Max
9:21
Yeah, Joe just wants to keep info away from the other teams, if possible
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:21
9:21
Sorry - just had to let the dogs out - back now
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:21

I am really hoping Bowa comes back to 3rd next yr, Meacham is really killing me. Do you think it will happen?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:21 Jabu
9:22
Bowa will stick with Torre.   But, I expect a new 3B man next year - maybe Willow
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:22
9:22
[Comment From CoreyCorey: ]
aceves pitched very well tonight in AAA, against a pretty good lineup (that included victor martinez and travis hafner), if he has a couple more starts like these I say give him a shot over ponson or rasner (and have joba take the others slot)
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:22 Corey
9:22
Still, Girardi likes vet SP - guys with experience.

[Comment From CoreyCorey: ]
Have you seen the projected elias rankings? http://tigers-thoughts.blogspot.com/2008/08/projected-elias-rankings.html .... Giambi is barely a type B free agent, I don't think it would be worth a supplemental pick to offer the Big arbitration since he would most definitly take it
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:23 Corey
9:24
It doesn't work like that.   Giambi has an option for next year - or the Yankees buy him out.   There's no comp for him, either way
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:24
9:24
[Comment From RayBlayRayBlay: ]
What are the chances we see Willie Randolph?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:24 RayBlay

He'll be back with the team, some way, next year.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:24
9:25
[Comment From LeahLeah: ]
I thought the Yankees brought up Gardner to replace Melky for the time being?!?! All Brett's been doing is warming up a seat on the bench while Damon gets the starts in CF.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:25 Leah
9:25

The need for Matsui at DH is greater.

if I was CC I would pick an NL west team and ride a stellar career in the nl, it would likely give him the best shot at the world series (as the nl is weaker)
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:25 Corey
9:26
He just might do that.

[Comment From MichaelMichael: ]
So I think they have to trade Damon or Matsui this offseason. Matsui is probably harder to trade, so Damon has to go. What do you think?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:26 Michael
9:27

Dunno.   Who would trade for Damon now?

Sunday August 24, 2008 9:27
9:27

Gardner barely hits 200, not worth it to start him, he's a 4th OF

Agreed. 1,000,00,000%

I forget if you were a fan of the Pudge-Farnsy trade from the start, but what are your feelings now. It seems like we got rid of Farnsy right before the inevitable happend althogh pudge is certaintly aged and not as productive as i thought he would be, what do you think?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:29 Max
9:31
Maybe Girardi could have milked more out of Farns?   He was doing a good job so far.   Pudge?   Right now, Moeller looks better.   But, FWIW, they say Pudge is really working hard and trying.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:31
9:31
[Comment From JJ: ]
Why move Damon to 1b? He's well above average in LF. As for who would trade for Damon "now"? He has a 120 OPS+ (career high) with above average defense.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:31 J
9:31
But, he's now injury prone.   Playing 1B could mean less injuries.

[Comment From CoreyCorey: ]
I still like our chances with pudge catching semi-regularly better than with moeller. He's trying too hard. How about that almost catch today? He still has those cat-like reflexes behind the plate. I still think theres a bat in him, he didn't inject all of that skill.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:34 Corey
9:34
FWIW, if the Yankees do make the post-season, I could see someone like Pudge having a Brian Doyle moment or two

9:40
Jeter has said, over and over, he wants nothing to do with the OF.   It's 1B, or, 3B with A-Rod going to 1B.

I don´t like the chances of Texeira coming to NY, he´ll stay in LAA. This offense needs mayor work in the offseason, with the 3rd and 5th hitters as Free Agents and the team needs to make up for 200 runs they lost this year. Your thoughts?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:45 Chofo
9:46

Unless they make some trades - like the one for Tino in 1996, etc. - I'm not sure what the Yankees will do...that's why I fear Cashman might bring some guys back, or try to, at discounts

Hopefully Cashman (or whoever) will pull the trigger on a trade that brings back a young athletic good outfielder or first baseman. I think the difference between a trade like that and Santana is the Yanks would be getting a player in his prime.
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:49 Gabe

What do you think of the state of YES broadcasters? I LOVE Cone, O'Neill and Leiter. Flaherty is okay, a little too serious and intense sometimes but not bad. Ken Singleton is my nightmare. And Michael Kay is what he is - and I gotta love him. Do you see YES making any moves to make the broadcast teams a little more consistent, a la the Mets?
Sunday August 24, 2008 9:52 RayBlay

Wish they would stick to three guys, everyday.   That's the way it should be...

Stay away from Matt Holliday, even if Boras would allow a negotiation the Yankees would still end up with a guy who they are paying for a year or two or three in decline. They need to trade Kennedy/Hughes for one of those young Dodgers outfielders or someone comparable.

I'm not saying Singleton's a bad guy. I just think, first of all (let me get this out of the way), he sounds like he's laughing when he speaks. Kinda like that guy from the Knicks. And I just don't appreciate when he says "this one is gone" - sounds like he's forcing it. I just don't enjoy his work. People have their own tastes. I just don't really love him. That is not to say he is a bad guy.

For all the $hit Ms. Jones has gotten, and it may be my bias as a woman, I think she's really improved and done some great work. Aside from her not being able to ask a question as much as really stating what she would like the person she is interviewing to agree with.
