2:33
Leigh Alexander:
Hey! Is this thing on?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:33 Leigh Alexander
2:33
Leigh Alexander:
(Tap, tap)
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:33 Leigh Alexander
2:33
Leigh Alexander:
Hello, Kotaku! I'm in an enormously long line waiting to get into the Konami press conference. How's it going?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:33 Leigh Alexander
2:35
Leigh Alexander:
Please leave your comments on Kotaku itself and not in the liveblog window!

Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:35 Leigh Alexander
2:35
Leigh Alexander:
We're going in. Stand by!!

Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:35 Leigh Alexander
2:37
Leigh Alexander:
Alright -- I'm now inside the big ol' press room. The stage is lit up in a blue light, and some ugly chick with a bad tattoo is blocking my view with her head.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:37 Leigh Alexander
2:38
Leigh Alexander:
Yay, she moved!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:38 Leigh Alexander
2:38
Leigh Alexander:
So, okay. The stage is flanked by two GINORMOUS monitors showing the Konami logo, and there are three smaller ones over the podium. Right now it is playing "Doctor, Doctor, Give Me The News..." What's the name of that song?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:38 Leigh Alexander
2:38
Leigh Alexander:
Oh, Konami, I've got a bad case of loving you.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:38 Leigh Alexander
2:39
Leigh Alexander:
My fellow Kotaku folk tell me that most press conferences thus far have been soundtracks with pulsing techno, so this very dated rock music is, uh... charming?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:39 Leigh Alexander
2:39
Leigh Alexander:
Oh goodness, now it's, "If the house is a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'." Who picked this music, Konami?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:39 Leigh Alexander
2:40
How do you feel about Castlevania: Judgment?
Oh, no, a fighter!
 ( 57% )
YES, a fighter!
 ( 15% )
But Iga says it's not a fighter.
 ( 29% )

Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:40
2:40
Leigh Alexander:
Hey, by the way? I met Koji Igarashi yesterday.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:40 Leigh Alexander
2:41
Leigh Alexander:
Yeah, I'm standing in the convention center talking on the phone to my sister, and Reggie Fils-Aime walks by. I consider chasing him to introduce myself, but decide not to. But then Iga comes by, right? And I hang up on my sister and go RUNNING.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:41 Leigh Alexander
2:42
Leigh Alexander:
Yes Feivel -- he was dressed in a trench with an indiana jones hat. The legends are true.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:42 Leigh Alexander
2:42
Leigh Alexander:
Gasp! It's starting!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:42 Leigh Alexander
2:42
Leigh Alexander:
It's Jay Boor, senior PR manager! Hi, Jay!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:42 Leigh Alexander
2:43
Leigh Alexander:
Jay is sort of handsome.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:43 Leigh Alexander
2:43
Leigh Alexander:
Now he's introducing Anthony Krautz, VP of marketing. Everyone claps.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:43 Leigh Alexander
2:43
Leigh Alexander:
Anthony points out that Jay is new, but great at his job.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:43 Leigh Alexander
2:44
Leigh Alexander:
What a difference a year makes, says Anthony. It's been a great year for Konami, and they're continuing with the long legacy of their franchises.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:44 Leigh Alexander
2:44
Leigh Alexander:
Now he said that MGS4 helped them "get over the hump." He's happy about the positive reviews and thanking us for our support.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:44 Leigh Alexander
2:44
Leigh Alexander:
You're welcome. I'd like to hump MGS4.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:44 Leigh Alexander
2:44
Leigh Alexander:
Big announcements about MGS 4!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:44 Leigh Alexander
2:44
Leigh Alexander:
Expansion pack for MGO: The Gene and Gene Plus will be available July 17th. New characters, new modes and more surprises.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:44 Leigh Alexander
2:45
Leigh Alexander:
Also, MGO world tournament will take place at TGS in October.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:45 Leigh Alexander
2:45
Leigh Alexander:
The best MGO players from Asia, Europe and US will compete in a huge tournament at TGS to find out who's the best team.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:45 Leigh Alexander
2:45
Leigh Alexander:
Next week at Comic Con they're having their first live tournament.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:45 Leigh Alexander
2:45
Leigh Alexander:
He's talking about social gaming aspects   of it and competitive style.

Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:45 Leigh Alexander
2:46
Leigh Alexander:
Rock Revolution, now.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:46 Leigh Alexander
2:46
Leigh Alexander:
Linkin Park's tour in 24 major markets across the company, and Konami will be the official video game.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:46 Leigh Alexander
2:46
Leigh Alexander:
They have an official booth starting tomorrow on LP's tour. Uh... yay?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:46 Leigh Alexander
2:47
Leigh Alexander:
Now Silent Hill, "synonymous with horror and suspense." Homecoming is coming out on PS3 and 360... and instead of teasing us, they'll offer one off the Collective's designers to go over the game in detail.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:47 Leigh Alexander
2:47
Leigh Alexander:
We'll see some exclusive footage, too -- great!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:47 Leigh Alexander
2:47
Leigh Alexander:
All in all, Konami has been synonymous with bringing games across mutliple genres, Andrew said. It's the first time in Konami's history that they've released games across all their major franchises.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:47 Leigh Alexander
2:48
Leigh Alexander:
He's thanking us for coming, and that Konami appreciates our support.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:48 Leigh Alexander
2:48
Leigh Alexander:
He's talking about Elebits DS now... "a really really good title."
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:48 Leigh Alexander
2:49
Leigh Alexander:
Now he's bringing up Igarashi who's come from Japan to show highlights from Castlevania: Judgment and demoing the title for the first time in North America.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:49 Leigh Alexander
2:49
Leigh Alexander:
He's gonna talk about Order of Ecclesia too.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:49 Leigh Alexander
2:49
Leigh Alexander:
Ooh, everything just went all purple and turquoise. Here comes Iga in his hat.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:49 Leigh Alexander
2:49
Leigh Alexander:
He's speaking Japanese and an interpreter is translating.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:49 Leigh Alexander
2:50
Leigh Alexander:
He's here to show us two new castlevanias -- says he's a little nervous.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:50 Leigh Alexander
2:50
Leigh Alexander:
He'll talk about Ecclesia first.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:50 Leigh Alexander
2:50
Leigh Alexander:
New trailer showing now... it looks very traditional -- a huge monster jumps out to thrumming music, and the cute broad with the brown hair is leaping around whipping things.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:50 Leigh Alexander
2:51
Leigh Alexander:
The art is just beautiful -- really, what we traditional, Symphony fans have been wishing for, I think. I looks almost exactly like Symphony, thematically.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:51 Leigh Alexander
2:51
Leigh Alexander:
Her name is Shanoa, and there's a guy named Albus too. Another guy is Barlowe.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:51 Leigh Alexander
2:51
Leigh Alexander:
Shanoa's hot, Albus is handsom and Barlowe is old.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:51 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
Now she's beating skeletons and stuff. You can see the enemy's name inn the bottom.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
Dudes, this is classic Castlevania at its loveliest. Get excited.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
The music is gothic rock, of course.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
The music is gothic rock, of course.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
Now we hear Dracula's voice saying "You danced well, woman. Now, shall we go for the finale?"
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:52
Leigh Alexander:
Trailer ends.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:52 Leigh Alexander
2:53
Leigh Alexander:
Iga's saying it's playable today on the floor.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:53 Leigh Alexander
2:53
Leigh Alexander:
Now, he's going to show us Judgment on the Wii.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:53 Leigh Alexander
2:53
Leigh Alexander:
This is a "very different type of gameplay than the traditioal castlevania games."
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:53 Leigh Alexander
2:53
Leigh Alexander:
He says that while most people think it's a fighting game, he calls it a "3D versus action game."
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:53 Leigh Alexander
2:54
Leigh Alexander:
So now he'll show us a new trailer.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:54 Leigh Alexander
2:54
Leigh Alexander:
Fast-paced gothic harpsichord music shows hot Simon Belmont, Dracula...
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:54 Leigh Alexander
2:54
Leigh Alexander:
as playables...
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:54 Leigh Alexander
2:54
Leigh Alexander:
Alucard, looking very girly... loli Maria...
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:54 Leigh Alexander
2:54
Leigh Alexander:
It sure looks like a fighting game to me, Iga-san.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:54 Leigh Alexander
2:55
Leigh Alexander:
Alucard versus Maria, cool. Simon versus Dracula. The music is pretty nice.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:55 Leigh Alexander
2:55
Leigh Alexander:
Lots of special moves, lightning, ad plenty of whiplashing.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:55 Leigh Alexander
2:55
Leigh Alexander:
In a special move animation, Alucard's sword went on fire and he sprouted bat wings. Richter was shown using Grand Cross.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:55 Leigh Alexander
2:56
Leigh Alexander:
Simon: "I'm a Belmont. That's my job."
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:56 Leigh Alexander
2:56
Leigh Alexander:
Available Fall 08.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:56 Leigh Alexander
2:56
Leigh Alexander:
I thought it looked pretty cool, actually. It's fun to see the old-school characters in 3D. Iga hopes we think of it as an action game because you can run around 360 degrees.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:56 Leigh Alexander
2:57
Leigh Alexander:
The timeline goes over 1000s of years as Dracula fights the "forces of good," Iga is saying. There is a character trying to destroy that timeline, and due to magical forces, characters from different periods are brought together to battle.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:57 Leigh Alexander
2:57
Leigh Alexander:
That explains Richter and Simon in the same game.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:57 Leigh Alexander
2:57
Leigh Alexander:
Famous Manga artist Obata is doing the art.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:57 Leigh Alexander
2:58
Leigh Alexander:
For this game there will be 14 playable characters.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:58 Leigh Alexander
2:58
Leigh Alexander:
Four announced: Alucard, Simon, Maria and Dracula ... for the remainder please wait patiently, he said.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:58 Leigh Alexander
2:58
Leigh Alexander:
Maybe I saw Simon and not Richter using Grand Cross in the trailer. I'm not sure.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:58 Leigh Alexander
2:58
Leigh Alexander:
Now he's   showing Simon running via the nunchuk's stick, used for all sorts of movement.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:58 Leigh Alexander
2:59
Leigh Alexander:
Z button guards or blocks, and C button jumps.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:59 Leigh Alexander
2:59
Leigh Alexander:
Shake the nunchuk to dodge.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:59 Leigh Alexander
2:59
Leigh Alexander:
Oh, hey, it's classic Castlevania tune going now.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:59 Leigh Alexander
2:59
Leigh Alexander:
From Rondo maybe? I'm not sure.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 2:59 Leigh Alexander
3:00
Leigh Alexander:
For those who asked, the Maria I saw was a child.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:00 Leigh Alexander
3:00
Leigh Alexander:
Iga's now sayig he made a 3d vs action game because when people requested a Wii whip castlevannia game, he thought whipping the Wii remote for an hour in a traditional action game would be too tiring.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:00 Leigh Alexander
3:01
Leigh Alexander:
B button is attack. Simon whips the guy. Shake the nunchuk while pressing B for a strong attack.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:01 Leigh Alexander
3:01
Leigh Alexander:
Ah, the game has Castlevania-traditional subweapons, too.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:01 Leigh Alexander
3:01
Leigh Alexander:
Simon is using the traditional Holy Belmont moves, and he can do Belmont Item Crash too.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:01 Leigh Alexander
3:01
Leigh Alexander:
This looks pretty rad, actually.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:01 Leigh Alexander
3:02
Leigh Alexander:
Iga made Simon pick up an item from the   area floor. He can also destroy objects to get hearts, Castlevania-style.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:02 Leigh Alexander
3:02
Leigh Alexander:
So it looks like the aesthetic is still firmly in place.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:02 Leigh Alexander
3:03
Leigh Alexander:
You can also use environmental objects to attack the enemy. Iga now made Simon toss a candlestand at the enemy. Holding A + B made that happen.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:03 Leigh Alexander
3:03
Leigh Alexander:
Simon's outfit is very uh... bondage gear, by the way.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:03 Leigh Alexander
3:04
Leigh Alexander:
In powerful moves timing plays a role. He just triggered a cutscene move, one that took a lot of the enemy's health. You have to time this correctly, though.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:04 Leigh Alexander
3:04
Leigh Alexander:
NPCs can change the outcome of the battle?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:04 Leigh Alexander
3:05
Leigh Alexander:
I'm listening to find out what this means.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:05 Leigh Alexander
3:05
Leigh Alexander:
Iga said he knows the gameplay is different from what fans are used to, but he promised you will see many similarities to what you love. He hopes we all give it a try.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:05 Leigh Alexander
3:06
Leigh Alexander:
Iga's done, and now Jason Allen is coming up to show Silent Hill Homecoming.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:06 Leigh Alexander
3:06
Leigh Alexander:
Kotaku fans, I am a Silent Hill nerd. I should have brought some diapers.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:06 Leigh Alexander
3:06
Leigh Alexander:
Ohh, here comes a new trailer.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:06 Leigh Alexander
3:06
Leigh Alexander:
Rated M, it says. REALLY?
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:06 Leigh Alexander
3:06
Leigh Alexander:
A guy is falling through a hole and calling for a little boy named Josh. He wakes up in a truck having had a bad dream.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:06 Leigh Alexander
3:07
Leigh Alexander:
Now he's wandering through Silent Hill looking for creepy dark little bot Josh, who says he's the key who holds all the answrs.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:07 Leigh Alexander
3:07
Leigh Alexander:
Ooh, very very scary sound.... ooh, a nurse...
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:07 Leigh Alexander
3:07
Leigh Alexander:
"Find me and everything changes," says Josh.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:07 Leigh Alexander
3:08
Leigh Alexander:
At the very last, a faceless spook with a hook hand bursts out of the water, strobe effect, trailer end.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:08 Leigh Alexander
3:08
Leigh Alexander:
The nurse was SH2 style, by the way... faceless, little dress, bloody, etc.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:08 Leigh Alexander
3:08
Leigh Alexander:
Jason Allen is now going to talk us through a walkthrough.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:08 Leigh Alexander
3:09
Leigh Alexander:
We're seeing our player character Alex walking around what looks like a spooky ash gray dining room. Eight way strafe system and a Havok physics system.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:09 Leigh Alexander
3:10
Leigh Alexander:
Quick inventory system, Allen says. Pipe, fire axe are in the weapons... they can attack but also can be used to take down obstacles. He shoots a chair and it falls over.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:10 Leigh Alexander
3:10
Leigh Alexander:
No first-person in range weapons. But there's a first person look when you pick up items so you can see what you're looking at around the room. Kept SH-style head tracking so that you know where items are.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:10 Leigh Alexander
3:10
Leigh Alexander:
So no blind looking around.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:10 Leigh Alexander
3:11
Leigh Alexander:
Holy crap. The realtime ingame transition to horror world looks amazing.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:11 Leigh Alexander
3:11
Leigh Alexander:
They just showed the world gradually turn red and start peeling away in-game, realtime, no cutscene. So cool.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:11 Leigh Alexander
3:11
Leigh Alexander:
The filmgrainy look of the game looks very cool.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:11 Leigh Alexander
3:11
Leigh Alexander:
Facial models seem a bit crude, but the environmentals look great.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:11 Leigh Alexander
3:12
Leigh Alexander:
Dialog tree conversation, some of your choices have an impact on the game.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:12 Leigh Alexander
3:12
Leigh Alexander:
They want us to play through multiple times for the different outcomes.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:12 Leigh Alexander
3:12
Leigh Alexander:
Segues between the dialogue trees and the cinematics when in conversation to someone are pretty seamless.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:12 Leigh Alexander
3:13
Leigh Alexander:
Alex is now aggressing someone to look for Joey, a friend of his brother. This person tells Alex he shouldn't have come back to the town.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:13 Leigh Alexander
3:13
Leigh Alexander:
The voice acting is quite good, especially when compared with past Silent Hills.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:13 Leigh Alexander
3:13
Leigh Alexander:
"Something is taking everyone away," the guy tells Alex. Alex shakes him and demands to know where his brother is, and the guy calls him a bastard.

Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:13 Leigh Alexander
3:13
Leigh Alexander:
Slabs of flesh on chains rattle as the room begins to shake.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:13 Leigh Alexander
3:14
Leigh Alexander:
A huge monster is pulling itself out of the ground. The guy is begging the monster for mercy; Alex calls him a sick fuck. Uh oh, the monster just killed Alex's buddy there.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:14 Leigh Alexander
3:14
Leigh Alexander:
Now it's a boss battle. Alex is running around the stage with the leggy fleshy spider thing in the center.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:14 Leigh Alexander
3:15
Leigh Alexander:
Alex hides behind a shelf for cover, but the creature is taking out bits of the shelf.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:15 Leigh Alexander
3:15
Leigh Alexander:
Alex has to take out the meatsacks in order to take the monster to the ground and fight him up close.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:15 Leigh Alexander
3:16
Leigh Alexander:
Now that the monster is on the ground, it's clear he's a huge torso with hands and a faceless head, smacking at Alex as he runs around the stage. Alex knocked him down and started clocking him in the neck with the axe. End demo. .
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:16 Leigh Alexander
3:17
Leigh Alexander:
Senior product manager Lauren someone (don't know how you'd spell her last name" comes up. Facidomo, maybe? She's the senior product manager on Rock Revolution, which she says will be the "ultra-realistic rock game that we're all looking for."
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:17 Leigh Alexander
3:18
Leigh Alexander:
She says they focused a lot on the drum peripheral, seven pads that are "there to bang on." And she's introducing the LA-based all-female Ramones tribute band The Sheenas to come up and play. Except it looks like they are playing real instruments and not toy ones.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:18 Leigh Alexander
3:19
Leigh Alexander:
These chicks appear to be sort of old, but they are playing Blitzkrieg Bop. The vocalist is pretty bad.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:19 Leigh Alexander
3:19
Leigh Alexander:
This is a little bit awkward.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:19 Leigh Alexander
3:20
Leigh Alexander:
What they didn't show: The part of Silent Hill: Homecoming where Joey Ramone rises from the grave and kills The Sheenas for torturing his song.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:20 Leigh Alexander
3:20
Leigh Alexander:
But hey, who am I teasing? I can't play music at all.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:20 Leigh Alexander
3:21
Leigh Alexander:
So now they're going to play the same song on the band set. They stink at this even worse than they do at real band music, if that's possible. It looks, well, a lot like Rock Band. The controller looks like the GH wireless Gibson.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:21 Leigh Alexander
3:22
Leigh Alexander:
The in game band animations are, unsurprisingly, behind the scrolling fret bars. Oh, by the way, this isn't a master track of Blitzkrieg Bop, it's a cover and not a great one.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:22 Leigh Alexander
3:22
Leigh Alexander:
Aw, The Sheenas failed the song!
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:22 Leigh Alexander
3:23
Leigh Alexander:
That was the end of the presentation.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:23 Leigh Alexander
3:23
Leigh Alexander:
The Sheenas and a failure at Rock Revolution were NOT a bang-up way for Konami to end that.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:23 Leigh Alexander
3:23
Leigh Alexander:
But hey, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia? Gave me goose bumps. Judgment? Okay, I admit, I'm more interested in trying it now. And Homecoming looks incredible, too.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:23 Leigh Alexander
3:24
Leigh Alexander:
I wish they'd announced the fighters, though.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:24 Leigh Alexander
3:24
Leigh Alexander:
I don't understand though, in a nutshell, why anyone would be into Rock Revolution when there is Rock Band 2. But to be fair, it was not a very spirited or exciting demo, and you know? I really don't like the Ramones.
Wednesday July 16, 2008 3:24 Leigh Alexander
3:25
Leigh Alexander:
