Fire away with questions guys.   I'm all hopped up after getting my wisdom teeth pulled an hour ago and ready to go.   Forgive me if I don't go too fast as I iron out any kinks using this system.

And I know I said I wouldn't liveblog the NFL Live, but I will a bit anyway.   Favre's agent is STILL meeting with the Packers President.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:31
4:32
I'm guessing   they are trying to work out some agreement for Favre to stay away from the team while the Packers shop him around.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:32

Before I start taking questions, let's try a fancy poll.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:33

Who would you take with the third pick in a standard league if LT2 and Peterson go 1-2
Westbrook
 ( 31% )
Frank Gore
 ( 8% )
Steven Jackson

Tom Brady

After the big 5 of RB's are gone...who do you like in non PPR? Gore, Portis, Barber??
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:34 Kyle
4:35
In a non-PPR league, I'd still go with Gore.   I just believe in the talent and the offense will be improved.   I'd rather have him catch 75 passes than hit 300 carries anyway.

[Comment From JoeJoe: ]
In your position battles article you mention gaffney and jackson for starting patriot receiver but neither of them are going to start. Moss and Welker are the starters. What gives?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:35 Joe
4:36
Did you email me about this too (if so ... I'm a little behind on emails, my bad).   Technically Welker is the third receiver because he plays the slot.   It doesn't matter really because they should start 3 WRs.   In the end, Gaffney and and Jackson will get fewer snaps and that's all that matters.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:36

By the way, I'm definitely going to liveblog a draft now and have you guys help pick the  team.

Do you still consider Jay Cutler to be a great pick with the impending suspension of Brandon Marshall? How does that effect Cutler's value?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:37 RetardStrength
4:39
I consider him a very good pick, but not as great as he was before the Marshall suspension looked so long.   Still, if it's only four games, the hit on Cutler is relatively minimal.   Maybe a spot or two.   I'm going to knock him once we know the official word.   If it's eight games, that's a problem, but I still see him as a QB1.   Just a later pick.

Is J.Stewart a good RB2 in a 12 team league that only starts 2 RBs (no flex). Lets say I grab him in the 5th.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:40 Kyle
4:41
For sure.   I love the value.   Why is this guy not getting more hype?   DeAngelo Williams?  I like him in the fourth or fifth round, whether you get him as your second or third running back.   He's one reason to wait.

Can you invision any likely scenario where you would draft 4 RBs with your 1st 4 picks? It used to be a common practice, but this year it seems like it might not be doable.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:44 Nasty Nate
4:44
Never say never (what if top 10 guys kept falling for some reason), but I highly doubt it.   I think this is a good year to go WR in round two.   Even RB-WR-WR depending on how the board falls.

do you draft QB in rounds 1 or 2 or wait for brees, palmer in 3 or 4?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:46 Mike
4:47
In general I like to wait on quarterbacks.   Often I wait past the first 6 rounds.   But every draft is different.   Manning fell to me at 3.9 in an industry draft last night.   I loved him there.   Carson Palmer in the fifth would be tough to pass up.

Do you think Steve Slaton could be the starter by the end of the year for the Texans, since Chris Brown might get cut and Ahman Green is always injured?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:48 Chris
4:49
Maybe but only in a committee.     I think the Texans are going to split up the carries significantly no matter who is in there.

Evan Silva chimes in with breaking news: Reggie Williams will need arthroscopic knee surgery.
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:51
4:52
Here's the story.   We already had him listed as a bust in the draft guide.   (Knew a plug was coming).   This doesn't help.   Silva's #1 prospect Mike Walker will get a long look.

In standard Yahoo public leagues are you selecting Randy Moss ahead of Top 10 RB1's?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:53 Mike

Will Chris Johnson take the starting job from Lendale White some time this year?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:53 Randy from PA

I don't think so, but I do think White's touches are going down.     Still, I think Bakesale leads the way and is a little undervalued going as a RB3.

[Comment From Ron WRon W: ]
I have the #1 pick this year. My prior experience with #1 picks were Shawn Alexander in 2006 & Marshall Faulk in 2002. Both were consensus #1 picks coming off great seasons & at the top of their game. Both were also 29 years old & both were a bust. LT3 is in exactly the same situation this year. I'm not normally superstitious, but, what are your thoughts on AD as the #1 overall pick. Note: I'm in PPR league. (btw - Westbrook is 29 this year too)
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:55 Ron W
4:55
I don't think anything is that crazy. People listen to stuff like our rankings too much.   It's a surprising game.   Peterson is reasonable as a top pick (I'd take LT2), but the PPR reason hurts your case big time.

AFTER TOP 4 QBS, WHO SHOULD I FOCUS ON & WHERE?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:56 TERRY
4:57
I think Palmer is in the top 4 quarterbacks, so he's a nice pick in the fifth round.   It's all about where they fall, but other quarterbacks I like later include Garrard, Cutler, and Schaub.   Even McNabb at the right price should be a solid every week guy.

Wednesday July 30, 2008 4:58 Guest

5th round seems like a stretch for Stewart. After Peterson and Lynch last year, I think rookie RBs are going to be overvalued this year.

It depends on the back, but running back is not a tough position to transition into as a pro.   There were a lot of good values in Reggie Bush's class too.

My question is, if the Titans project to anywhere from 10 to 20% more carries than the #2 team in the NFL attempt-wise, isn't a pretty big deal if Johnson goes 60-40 instead of the other way around?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 5:02 DudeAbides
5:03
I skipped the first part of this question which wondered if Johnson could win the starting job.   Sure, it's a big deal if that happens.   I don't think the starting job is up for grabs, but obviously the workload is.   I think they can take White out for entire series, something they did last year.   White got 300 carries last year and I think it could be more like 250 this time.

Sure, I'm concerned.   I don't think he's that high for a guy who was the number one player from last year.   I'm definitely counting on him helping you more in the second half of the season than the first half.

Who do you think will have a better season, Portis or Marion Barber?
Wednesday July 30, 2008 5:11 Jason

This is REALLY a tough question.   I think Portis is a little safer because he's going to touch the ball more.   Barber is obviously on a better offense.   In a PPR, I'd take Barber.   Otherwise Portis

Bradshaw looks like the backup right now.   I think they will go to a committee, with Bradshaw in a big role like in the playoffs. I think Ward will split carries with Bradshaw if Jacobs gets hurt.

One last thing on Anderson: I think he's a better than average starting quarterback on a great offense.   He should do well.   I just don't want to invest a top-eight QB pick on a guy with any job security issues.

Such a good question, we'll end on it.   Chester Taylor.   I say this not because I know AP will get hurt, but because I know Taylor will be a top-12 fantasy guy with that line in front of him if Peterson gets hurt.   I don't think you can handcuff Peterson too early, just in case.
