I am having a hysterectomy and A&P repair next week because of uterine prolapse. Once I have healed, will I cotinue to be under a 20 pound weight lifting restriction?
11:59
Dr. Christopher Jayne -  For the most part we restrict activity and lifting amounts for 6 weeks. If all goes well after that time you can resume your usual activities.
12:01
Dr. Christopher Jayne -  Hysterectomy is a catch all term usually used by the general public to mean the removal of uterus and cervix. Technically it means just the removal of the uterus. To say total hysterectomy would mean removal of uterus and cervix. To say sub total or supra cervical would mean leaving the cervix.

Now I'm confused. When I had my total hysterectomy, I thought the doctors removed my uterus. Should I be concerned?
12:02
Dr. Christopher Jayne -  There is no need for concern.

[Comment From Shirley]
After surgery, what are the lifting restrictions long term?
12:04
Dr. Christopher Jayne -  In general I tell my patients not to lift more than a gallon of milk for the first two weeks and no more than 10 pounds or so for six weeks.

Which type of surgery has fewer complications, a transvaginal hysterectomy or abdominal approach.
