[Comment From terry]
What is the difference between a muslim woman wanting to wear the jijab and a an extreme rightest wanting to wear a brown shirt and swastiks?

Tom Krattenmaker
- No questions have popped up yet, so let me pose a couple. Where do you all draw the line between religious *expression* and promotion of religion? i.e. does the hijab promote Islam or merely express it?
Also, wondering what you think about prospects for inter-religious understanding between Christians and Muslims ...

[Comment From George Rede]
If one wants to maintain a strict separation between church and state, why should we allow ANY religious garb in the classroom, whether hijab, a yarmulke or a cross on a necklace?
10:05
Tom Krattenmaker
- To answer Terry question ... correct me if I'm wrong, but an extreme rightist does have the right to wear the garb you mention. Even tho' we might find it repulsive. What's the difference? Well, I don't think wearing a hijab is hate-filled for one ...

Tom Krattenmaker
- George's question is interesting. I for one don't think the installation of complete secularity in public settings squares with our desire for religious freedom and a system of pluralism. What do the rest of you think?
