Dining Out with Devra First

11:02
Devra First -  Hi everyone. I'm sitting here with a bag of edamame slung over my shoulder. Anyone have a good cure for a stiff neck? And what have you eaten recently that's delicious?

Hi Devra, I saw in the Dishing blog that El Pelon will be reopening its Fenway location in about a year. Any news on when the other Peterborough restuarants will reopen?
11:03
Devra First -  I don't know what's happening with the others. Looks like El Pelon will also be opening a new branch in Washington Square in Brookline. Which places are you missing in particular?

Do you have some lesser known restaurants that are considered "hidden gems" in your eyes. Thx
11:05
Devra First -  There are many! Any particular neighborhood? In Cambridge, for example, there's Baraka Cafe for Tunisian/North African. In the South End, there's Don Ricardo's. But let me know where you're looking.

What do you think of this sudden rage in Vegas-style bars/restaurants, a la Bokx and the new place opening in the space previously occupied by News?
11:06
Devra First -  I don't know if we can call it a "sudden rage," really. Bokx has been open for a while, and I'm not seeing a ton of places like this. I guess you could add Bond in in a pinch. Escapism, living large for a few hours... it has its appeal!

Hi Devra, I love your reviews. Recently had brunch at Eastern Standard, and it was excellent. What are some are your picks for brunch in the city?
11:08
Devra First -  Thanks! Eastern Standard is pretty good. Gaslight, Mike & Patty's, Craigie, Centre Street in JP. Haven't tried Scampo's brunch yet. Anyone? I tend to think of Boston as not the greatest brunch town -- it's hard, for instance, to come by a really good cup of coffee, which in my mind is requisite. What are your favorite brunch spots, everyone? Teranga, the new Senegalese place in the South End, will start offering it at some point; it will be French-y as well as Senegalese.

Not missing anything in particular but I'm moving to that area next month and I'm wondering what some good places to eat are (besides all of the sports bars in the area).
11:09
Devra First -  Gotcha. When I worked around there, it was a fairly steady diet of El Pelon and Brown Sugar, neither an option at this juncture. The area has changed a lot since then! You'll want to check out Trattoria Toscana for dinner.

I heard Bobby Flay was spotted at Sam LaGrassa's yesterday. Any idea why? Corned beef throwdown, maybe?
11:10
Devra First -  Maybe he was just in the mood for a good sandwich! I don't know why. Corned beef throwdown would be awesome.

the line is SO long, and they rush you out + serve warm mimosas
11:12
Devra First -  The line is truly very long!
11:12
Devra First -  I also used to like Soundbites, where I haven't been in a long time. Speaking of long lines and rushing.
