Devra First dishes about dining out

Devra First -  Hi everyone. How are you today? Have you eaten anything good since we last chatted?

Hi, I can't believe it's fall already! I'm suddenly craving all things cozy. What's a good spot in the city with a lot of warmth and tasty fall-inspired desserts? Good drinks are always nice, too. Thanks!

Devra First -  Greetings. For warmth, I always think of the Helmand, with its lovely fireplace. Call first to see if it's lit -- I think they wait till it's really chilly.

Devra First -  For fall-inspired desserts, you might try the dessert bar at Troquet, Rendezvous in Central Square, Lumiere, UpStairs on the Square. Any restaurant that thinks seasonally -- which is many these days -- should have something fall-ish for you.

Hi Devra, Dishing is not listed today. I had to hunt around to find it.

Nice work, in this morning's paper -- "food for thought", so to speak, about the softness in the industry. I imagine it will get worse before it gets better.

Devra First -  Thanks. I think we've been quick to say restaurants that are having trouble are doing so because of the economy, when the trouble may often have already been there. That said, I was reluctant to run with that story, because I think there is so much positive on the restaurant scene right now -- so many restaurants opening soon, and people getting back in the business.

Devra First -  Nelly, you mean the link to the chat? Thanks. I'll point that out to the Boston.com folks.
11:12
Devra First -  That would account for the low traffic. Where's my peeps?!

I found it the same way I always do: on the "Dishing" RSS feed. Honestly, it's not so easy to find stuff on boston.com at times.

Boston.com has listed "Discuss" "Why are restaurants closing?"

Have you ever eaten at Frank's Steak House in Cambridge?
11:17
Devra First -  I have! Years ago. I used to go hear Preacher Jack play. The music was more memorable than the food.

Any reviews on the Red Lentil in Watertown?
11:17
Devra First -  Haven't tried it yet, but I'm curious. Has anyone been?

Interesting the Jean-George is on his way here. I'm intrigued by what he may be bringing to town.
11:18
Devra First -  I agree. Looking forward to finding out. I've enjoyed Jean-Georges in NY, but I ate at Perry Street once and it was a disaster. We'll see.
