Live Chat: Tom Kowalski's Detroit Lions Q&A

12:01
James Schmehl -  What's up, guys. The chat is about to kick off, so if you have some questions send 'em Killer's way. Will Calvin Johnson play Sunday? What about Kevin Smith? Ask away...
12:04
James Schmehl -  Also, just a heads up -- submitted questions must be approved, so be patient. Thanks, guys.

[Comment From Jeff]
Does Zach Follett have a chance to contribute as a defender next year and not just on special teams? Does the emergence of Levy and potentially Follett make Ernie a tradeable commodity?
12:09
Killer -  considering the current state of linebackers, i think follett will be a backup for the foreseeable future ... i don't see him nudging any starters out of there anytime soon ...

when was the last time we won a road game? and why should we expect to win one now?
12:10
Killer -

the lions have lost 15 straight on the road and, really, there's not much reason to "expect'' they'll win this one ... the key is getting to hassebeck before he can find those receivers downfield ... that's possible, but not probable ...

according to walter football jeff backus has already given up 6.5 sacks, as much as we need a defender with that top pick do you think the lions may be forced to take the best offensive tackle off the board with our top 3 pick? . also, can anybody still justify passing on big mike oher for the TE?
12:12
Killer -  actually, the lions aren't down on backus at all ... he's given up some sacks, but his overall game has been solid ... one coach told me "his mistakes have been few, but they've been glaring'' ... the point is this -- he has to play better, no doubt, but he's not the broken-down ballplayer a lot of fans think he is ...

Killer, do the receivers look more capable in practice this week?
12:12
Killer -  could they look any worse?

Is sammie hill good enough to play NT in a 3-4?
12:14
Killer -  good question ... but i don't have the answer ... He's 330 so that's about right, but it takes a different skill set to handle that job ... i'm sure it's something they'll look at, but i still think they'll stick wtih a 4-3

hey killer were do you see brandon graham going in next's year's draft and will lion's least give long look at drafting a homegrown talent???
12:15
Killer -  graham, the kid from michigan, is going to go higher than he should because he's a defensive linemen and a pass rusher -- those guys always get elevated ... i pin down an exact area of the draft yet because i don't know how he stacks up against all of the rest of those linemen and there are a lot of them ... as of two weeks ago, i had graham going in the lower first round ... we'll adjust as it goes ...

[Comment From Saz]
Too many people defend Sackus. Its about time for a new left tackle, he is just so over powered by the premium DEs
12:16
Killer -  i'm just telling you what the coaches think about him ...
12:16
[Comment From Allen Kaiserman]
If you are still standing by your 3-13 prediction where do you see those two wins coming?
12:16
Killer -  well, there's no point in changing now ... if they lose to the browns, then it'll be time for some serious readjustment ...

What's your view on Gosder Cherilus? Has he showed enough improvement to think he can be a solid RT for years to come? Or is this a position that will need to be addressed again soon?
12:17
Killer -  gosder has not played well this year, but he's fighting a fairly nasty shoulder injury ... he's getting beat one-on-one and that's got to stop ... i wouldn't give up on the kid yet, but you've got to see some upward progress as the season continues ...
