[Comment From Madhukar Shahi ]
Our beaches are dying and yet our govt seems to do too little. Is there a policy in place to save our beaches?

Lack of knowledge is why people are doing whatever they want. People think of development only. They don’t look at the economics of the environment. What will be the cost of restoring these beaches?

Could you define a roadmap to fight the loss of beaches. More imprtantly, is the govt listening?

Do you think the Manmohan Singh govt will give any importance to the issue of eroding beaches. Is the govt serious enough to formulate any concrete policies?

The government should take serious note of this problem and take appropriate steps in co - ordination with private agencies, scientists and common man to save the lovely beaches

Leave the government, it's high time we introspect. Tons of garbage is thrown on beaches everyday by picnic goers and tourists, rampant unquestioned sandmining in kerela, hospitality sector trying to hotelize every inch of coastline present....when will we wake up against the double standards we created. Every country has the government as according to its people.

Sir, it is heartening to note that atlast u have taken up this issue of saving our beaches! The lost tranquility can only be restored thru stringent punishment for the spoilers.. no awareness programme or education will be of help..I personally believe that we do not deserve this much of independence..we should have controlled democracy. Then only we can cultivate dicipline in our society. Self dicipline alone will help to preserve our mother nature...

Preeti Singh: How can one ensure that the beaches are not dirtied by the very people using it? Will fines and proper patrolling be enough? Or it is a value that has not been imbibed at a personal level?

I really appreciate the effort to save India’s beaches and the various environmental concerns being raised. But shouldn’t such efforts be towards changing other more important ills of our country? Like the problems of slum dwellers? So that people really get up, are moved by their plight and things change for the better?
