How can I replicate flower beds you see at the entrance of various communities?

Joshua Logan -

We get this a lot! Bring in some pictures, a measurement of your bed and we'll help you recreate it!

I'm trying to find out what type of animal may be stealing ALL my pears from my tree. There's usually over 100 pears by June and gone by the end of that month. The animal(s) dig a hole under my back fence..but, it could be two or more types of animals..anything I can do or put down? I haven't been able to save 1 pear or tomato. Please, Please HELP!!!!

Joshua Logan -  Most likely, given the amount of activity, it is raccoons or squirrels, possibly both. Best two solutions: live animal traps, cages where you can relocate the animal, or using an organic pest repellent containing blood meal, garlic and/or rotten eggs. we sell one called RepellsAll.

Do you have any suggestions for getting rid of fire ants without using chemicals?
1:05
Joshua Logan -  A couple that come to mind are garlic oil (Garlic Barrier) and an organic spray called Spinosad, which is a by-product from the malting of liquor and is a great organic pest killer that has performed well against fire ant. Diotemecious earth is another potential option. A combo of DE and Spinosad is most effective.

Joshua Logan -

Lantana, verbena, Knock-out Roses, Black-eyed Susans, coneflowers and many other perennials and annuals. We have literature here at the store that perform well in our heat, the sun and drought conditions.

Won't Diotemecious earth be harmful to the beneficial bugs as well?

Kelly H. of WRAL.com -  If you'd like to visit the WRAL Azalea Gardens, you can get more info about it HERE.

Joshua Logan -  Possibly, but just a reminder, you would apply this directly to the fire ant mound and not broadcast it to minimize any unintentional damage.

I have to do most of my gadening in buckets or pails for my vegetables. My yard is rocky. Any sugestions

Joshua Logan -  Are you asking for suggestions on which plants you can grow in containers or which will do well in your rocky soil?

Container gardening can include sturdy herbs, tomatoes, peppers, blueberries and patio fruit trees. Reminder: plants in containers will require more consistent water and fertilizing.

hi....my lawn is full of weeds. What's the best way to get rid of them without killing what little grass I have left?

Kelly H. of WRAL.com -  See an "Around the Yard" slideshow.
