Otters vs. Spirit

6:52
Welcome to the second installment of the Erie Times-News' live Otters blog.
6:53
The Otters face Saginaw tonight, a Spirit team playing without former Otter Jordan Skellett. He's scratch due to an unknown ailment. Even the Spirit's radio play-by-play announcer didn't know what was wrong.

6:57
This is an important game for the Otters. Besides being a possible first-round matchup in the OHL playoffs, the Otters need to prove they can consistently beat teams ahead of them in the conference standings.
6:58
The Otters have scratched Mike Liambas, Robyn Sertic and Josh Sidwell. Skellett joins defenseman Nick Trecapelli and forward Jakub Svoboda on the Spirit's scratch list.

7:01
The Otters are honoring the 1983-84 Erie Golden Blades, who won an ACHL championship that season.
7:09
And they're off ... the first period has begun --- Janus in goal for the Otters, Pasquale for the Spirit.

7:13
As expected, the Otters' Luke Gazdic and Saginaw's Ryan Schnell fought 1:17 into the period. They exchanged words at center ice in the pregame warmup. By the way, Gazdic appeared to have the upper hand on two of three judges' cards. Split decision - Gazdic.

7:15
The Otters earn the game's first power play, as Saginaw's Adam Comrie goes to the box for hooking at the 3:21 mark.

7:16
The Otters have enjoyed the better of the opportunities so far. Pasquale just made a nice save on Andrew Yogan at the left post.

7:17
The PP's clicking so far, but nothing to show for it yet.
