Brian VanOchten - I'd expect he'll play some, although let's wait for the inactives list to be sure. He is back on the practice field and it'd be nice to see him -- and Calvin Johnson and Dennis Northcutt, also inactive last week -- work together as part of the first receivers group. It's the only fair way to judge Stafford and Culpepper in their battle, seeing them with the starting group.

Brian VanOchten - Much like Bryant Johnson. The coaches are being very careful with Pettigrew. If he doesn't play this week, he sure needs to get on the field in one of the last two preseason games just to get a feel for the speed of things as a rookie and at least start to develop that on-the-field chemistry with the quarterback, whoever it may be. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if he is inactive against the Brown. If he plays, it'll probably be a short stint.

Are the lions looking at any other free agents at cornerback thay may be brought in?

Brian VanOchten - Not sure. But they need to start scanning for available bodies. As teams begin cutting down their rosters, look for the Lions to start brining in some corners and some wide receivers. Two areas without much depth at all.

When determining starters, will this coaching staff rely more on preseason results or practice results?

Brian VanOchten - I think Schwartz and his staff are giving everyone a long, hard look. You combine both. Practice might earn a guy a starting spot in the preseason, but then they have to go out and validate it. Example: Cliff Avril has been a standout in practices, but he didn't have a good game in the opener. He needs to validate those outstanding practices in a real game situation.
