LT: get used to keeping a communication plan on a chart. What are your goals? What are your strategies? Who is in charge? What are the deadlines?
8:57
LT: On the regular LT is juggling 30 different projects at once. So organization is key.
8:58
LT: Overview - Pay attention to the PR things that you are doig not necessarily called "PR". Keep writing and organization in mind.
8:58
LT: Floor is open for Q & A.
8:59
Q: Do you have to take work home or do you generally get your work done at work?
A: I try not to take work home. If I didn't balance my time the right way and I have work because of that I will bring it home, but if not most likely not.
9:00
Q: Is it possible to get an internship with you?
A: Yes, they are probably unpaid. Send her an email (make it well-written because you are sending it to writers and editors).
9:00
Q: Can you talk about Clemson's re-branding? Why are they doing it?
9:03
A: What they are doing is trying to bring everything Clemosn is doing under one brand. At Clemson, in the past, many different departments had different slogans. This campaign is trying to bring all of this together. The office did research with students, faculty, staff, alumni, recent graduates - surveys > to see what people love and appreciate about Clemson. Ex: The Clemson Family. They picked a color pattern and fonts and all of the specifics that go along with that brand. The goal of re-branding is to bring everything into line and send one clear message about Clemson.
9:04
Q: What are you doing to market this new brand?
A: It is in the Clemson World Magazine. It's not as important for us to re-brand this to you. It's important for you students to see the brand. You will see the logos and watermarks.
9:08
Q: If you could give graduating seniors one piece of advice, what would it be?
A: I can't stress writing skills enough. And, also professionalism. Make sure you are doing everything you can to look the part and play the part. YOu must make a really good impression on them for them to want you out representing them. Make sure you are sending thank you notes after interviews. Make sure you are getting a few people to proofread your cover letters.
9:10
Q: I'm a graduate student and many jobs I apply for say I need a number of years of experience. What do I do? I apply anyway..but..
A: Yes do apply. And this is where volunteering and jobs and internshps come in. IF you have interned or volunteered it's easier to make a case for yourself in your cover letter. Also, your graduate degree will help. It's not the same as work place experience but it's just as valuable.
9:12
*End of meeting* - Thanks for tuning in!
