What can I do to help GM get more plugins on the road today, not in two years?
4:09
Britta Gross with GM -  We're working as fast as we can.   The vehicle's in development on the Proving Grounds.   Likely the most ambitious program we've ever had.   We're laying the seeds for infrastructure so that the vehicle will appeal to the masses.

Plug-in experts say our existing electric utility system could handle tens of millions of plug-in hybrid vehicles if they would be recharged during off-peak times, such as at night. Why do we need a new ecosystem?
4:14
Britta Gross with GM -

The utility grid is only one portion of this.   You have to have the enabling technologies to make a great vehicle and that's only half the battle, then you need the policies and communities that make it easier and more compelling for people to adopt this new technology.

While I have seen writeups from NREL about managing the grid with PHEVs like the volt I have seen very limited references to time of use charging systems, is something on the table that I have just missed? If they have these systems have the considered using the vehicles as generation/voltage support?

Britta Gross with GM -

Using the car battery to put power onto the grid is a great future opportunity, and we're going to get there, but it takes utility industry standards and battery experience.   The Volt will have some capability to delay charging until the evening hours so the driver can take advantage of low off-peak rates.   Gen 2 will be more advanced than Gen 1.

Is GM considering a "standby generator" add-on for Voltaic drive trains? (This would be great for emergency / disaster situations like hurricane)
