How about Jayson Werth? He has been idle for a few games.

Andy Martino -

Good morning, everyone.   Let's talk some baseball..and when you're done here, google "judge who saved baseball." interesting stuff....TomTom, Werth does look out of whack lately, other than that towering home run in New York.   His at-bats have not been pretty.   His season will be interesting to watch, because he's never been  a regular player for a full year--though he came close in 2008.   He has shown flashes of excellence this year, but perhaps not the consistency he or the team would like.

Do you think Mayberry will see more time?
11:05
Andy Martino -  Manuel will try to get him a few starts as he does with Stairs and Dobbs. He's good with rotating his bench into the lineup to keep them fresh. With Mayberry, they're asking a lot of a guy who has never pinch hit.   That's a totally different skill than hitting every day, and Mayberry is still developing. But if he does well, they will certainly keep him around.

I know Charlie has hinted at wanting a right handed bat off the bench. Any names the Phillies may be looking at?
11:07
Andy Martino -

They're hoping it's Mayberry.   If there was a guy outside the organization who was a perfect fit and available, he'd probably be in Philly by now. They're still looking, as I understand it, but the hunt is more of a simmer than a rolling boil.

I understand that Shane and Jimmy have a green light on the bases. Is that wise?
11:09
Andy Martino -

Sure, as long as they don't do anything silly like....oh, right.   Charlie views those guys as the heart of his running game, and doesn't want to slap a leash on them.   They just have to be smarter than they were last night.   To be fair, both are typically better baserunners than they showed yesterday.

Is Jamie really getting better? I don't see it.
