Dining Out with Devra First

Devra First -  Hello everybody. Eaten anything great recently? Tell me about your best meal of the last two weeks.

Devra First -  I'm torn about mine. It's a tossup between a great Arctic char at Au Pied de Cochon in Montreal and some great lobster at Fisherman's Friend in Stonington, Maine.

i'm looking for a restaurant for either a late lunch or a dinner with my brother and grandparents. It should be good, but not too expensive, with plenty of options so that all members of the group will be happy. The younger generation is adventurous but the older one is not.

Devra First -  Where will you be? I'd like to recommend something in a convenient location. If Beacon Hill fits the bill, how about Beacon Hill Bistro? There are plenty of traditional French bistro dishes, but the menu also has an adventurous streak. People of all ages seem very happy eating there. It's not fancy, but it's nice.

Finally got to Fish Market Sushi in Allston, which was excellent. The sushi chef was really nice to us as well - offered a couple of off-menu specials of the day and gave us really nice cuts of hamachi.

Devra First -  Great to know. I still haven't tried it, but I'm looking forward to it.

Years ago, I went to a spy bar in Wisconsin. It was very cool. Is there anything like that in Boston? I just mean in temrs of having a really cool, unusual atmosphere. Just looking for something fun and different ... thanks!

Devra First -  Wow. That sounds amazing. What made it a spy bar? Did spies hang out there (covertly)? Were there devices to spy on the folks at the neighboring table? Dave Eggers should start something like that here.

Devra First -  As for cool and unusual here, Dali in Somerville springs to mind. Also Friendly Toast in Cambridge. Anyone else? What places around town have cool and unusual atmospheres?
