Yo Rod - How come you didn't jump in front of D Harris yesterday so he didn't get clocked on that punt? C'mon, take a bullet!

What's crackin' Jets fans? Three weeks into the beat and we're having our first live chat. Let's go!
1:02
Gridder Tom, perfect way to start things off. Actually, the collision happened on the other side of the field from where we were standing. That's why I had such a great view. But I'll tell you what: Next time something like that happens, I'll make sure I step in and break a leg or two. That would mean no live chats for a weeks, though.

Hi Rod - is woody the weak link on the O. line? If so, will he be replaced by slauson? THANKS
1:04
Hey joejet, I'm not sure Damien Woody is the weak link on the offensive line. Quite honestly, the Jets think the O-line is one of the team's strengths. As for Matt Slauson, I think he's a guy the Jets will groom and plug him in during spot situations. Remember, the Jets signed Woody to a big five-year, $25 million contract and he is one of the main veteran voices in the locker room.

Rod - is Gholston a bust?

[Comment From williamg]
What's up, Rod? Let me put you on the spot and ask you what you think of Gholston? I know he was learning a new position, but what do you think about him only having one tackle? I mean: you would think he would at least get a dozen or so on special teams alone. One thing that stood out when I watched him last year was he seemed soft -- and I don't mean he was tentative because he was thinking too much. He was a cream puff. He never popped anyone -- he just leaned into them. What's your take?

Any signs of this great improvement promised in Gholston?
1:07
Ah, the first (second and third) Vernon Gholston questions. I'm sure they won't be the last. As I said in one of my earlier blog posts, it's hard to tell what progress Gholston has made because the team isn't in pads yet. We'll really get a handle on him once training camp starts. But from all indications, Rex Ryan has been talking him up and things Gholston will be a big part of the Jets' defense. Put another way -- if Ryan can't get anything out of him, no one will.

Rod, I know the authorities aren't considering him a suspect, but will this Kerry Rhodes rape investigation be a distraction to him or the team?
1:09
GridderTom, Kerry   was asked this yesterday and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Like Woody, Rhodes is one of the main voices in the locker room and all his teammates have his back. I think since he stood in front of the cameras and tape recorders yesterday and addressed it (the best way he could), I think it will be put on the back burner and they can move on -- unless something else in the investigation crops up.

[Comment From Morristown Mike]
Rod. Welcome aboard. I'm very concerned with the depth at the WR position. Do you think the Jets consider Matt Jones as an option especially if Plax ends up in the clink?

[Comment From Bill (Pomona, CA)]
Are the Jets really going to stand pat with what they have at WR, or do they sign Matt Jones or make a trade? What's your take? Thanks.
1:13
Thanks Morristown Mike. The wide receiver position is obviously one of the biggest question marks. I asked Rex yesterday if he really believes this current collection can get it done. He opened up a bit more than he has and said that if the team was throwing the ball 50 times (which is not what they will be doing), then maybe he'd look at things differently. But with the way he hopes to play on offense, he's confident in this group. But expect them to due their "due dilligence" and keep an eye out on any other possibilities. I don't think Matt Jones will be one of them.

will the jets pay tj and leon
1:17
whit75, I broke down Leon's situation in a blog post and the short answer is I don't think he'll get a new deal from the sound of things. It's a tricky situation. The Jets want to compensate him fairly, but the CBA is a major hangup. As for Thomas Jones, I don't believe they will be breaking him off either. Our NFL columnist Bob Glauber made the case to pay him more than the $900,000 he's owed by giving him the signing bonus he's due next March. He makes some valid points, but I don't think that's something the Jets will entertain.

With the Jets bringing in Bart Scott, what type of impact do you think that will have on David Harris? Do you think they will compliment each other well?
1:19
I think Bart Scott is a great pickup and yes he'll have an impact with the team's collection of LBs. I know some say he was the third best LB on the Ravens, but he's rubbing off on some of his teammates already. He already knows the defensive scheme and it's always great to have someone like that around who you can go to with questions.
