- Nick, it has been a while since we've been on here with you. On June 26 you were on the Dinocosta Show - see tweet below. How did that go?

- DINOCOSTA Conversation Friday include, authors, Leigh Montville, Phil Pepe, Ryan Thorburn, columnist, Nick Canepa, Mike Florio, Darren Ford

Nick Canepa
- That's a Denver radio show. I've been on it a few times before. They're very interested in what goes on in San Diego, especially with the Chargers. Actually, it's one of the better talk shows. He gets good guests. Why he chose me I have no idea.

- Nick's most recent column is about Manny Ramirez. For those who haven't read it, here it is

Manny's 'rehab' in minors is unfair

Heres a question...can you explain the poor play of the Padres?
12:23
Nick Canepa
- Sure. They aren't any good. They've lost their two best pitchers and Giles, who had a good year in 2008, has been awful and now resides on the DL. At least they try and they have some young guys who bring excitement. But it's Triple-A right now and you have to live with it. They just have trouble scoring runs and are going to continue that way.

[Comment From Peter]
What odds do you give the Chargers moving to LA within the next 5 years?
12:24
Nick Canepa
- When I see a shovel in the ground up there, then I'll believe it. I don't think the Chargers want to move our of town or they wouldn't have spent millions trying to stay here. Hard to build a stadium when you don't know a team is coming because football stadiums make no money.

[Comment From Speedy Duncan]
What's your opinion on how the Charger's D will do this season?
12:26
Nick Canepa
- Can't be worse. If Merriman's healthy and Cromartie's healthy, it should be much better. And Rivera has had them for a while and will try different things. I'm still concerned about the back end of it. Maybe rookie safety Ellison will be an answer. They really like him.

do you think Will Inman will make a showing for the Padres this year?
12:26
Nick Canepa
- If he's breathing, he has a chance.

[Comment From Mark]
This is a rebuilding year. Will it be the same for next year?
12:27
Nick Canepa
- If you're talking about the Padres, it's tough to tell. I think they may struggle for a while, especially if they let Peavy go.

Honestly , do you think of thesears young players on the Padres are the real deal? Headley, Blanks? This team seems so far away due to years of lousy drafts
12:29
Nick Canepa
- You're right about the drafts. It's too soon to tell on the youngsters. They have to play, which means growing pains, but a bit more excitement. They've actually decided to draft athletes, and that's a good thing. If you're going to miss, might as well miss on an athlete.

[Comment From John]
Nick, it seems the Padres make little financial investment in the team. Jeffrey Moorad does not remind me of an individual that has deep pockets, how do you see the team improving with continued little resources? This week's midweek attendance at Petco was embarrassing.
12:31
Nick Canepa
- Well, Moorad doesn't seem to have much say in the payrroll just yet. There are no guarantees if he goes out and spends $100 million this offseason they'll be any better. The Padres are not going to be an overnight thing.
