I am pleased to welcome Dr. Richard Selznick who is a psychologist and director of the Cooper learning Center in Cherry Hill, affiliated with Cooper University Hospital. Welcome to the chat Richard. To briefly summarize yesterday's column, a mother wrote telling the story of how her son was diagnosed with ADHD after a 45 minute session and told to take medication. Finally, the family made its way to you. I don't want to talk about this family specifically, but how do you get to a diagnosis of a child?

Richard is having some technical difficulties, so while they get resolved, I would like to hear from you about how issues of learning disabilities affect your life.

There are several kinds of ADD and one of them is more passive and just attentional problems while the other is with hyperactivity. So, yes, this is a common type of ADD. But you raise a bigger question about alternatives to medication.
