Chat with Mike Reiss

Mike Reiss -  Good afternoon. Welcome to our Patriots chat.

Boston.com -  Welcome to today's Patriots chat with Mike Reiss! Mike will be with us momentarily

Mike Reiss -

This week has been a good step-back, organize, and look big-picture type of week for me. I have been going over some of my notes from minicamp and OTAs, and also broadening out and talking to some people around the league to get a better feel for some of the other NFL clubs.

12:02
Mike Reiss -

In general, this is the quiet time on the NFL calendar as a lot of coaches go on vacation. Teams are finishing up minicamps or have already finished up, and this is their long-awaited break.

12:03
Mike Reiss -  Going to get myself settled here and start chatting shortly.

Hi Mike, Like most Pat’s fans, I’m interested to see how our LB situation develops. In the past, you’ve repeatedly said that the team seems happy with who we have. Do you think that part of not acquiring additional LB’s may also be a strategy for building up the confidence of existing guys like Crable and Guyton?

Mike Reiss -  Not necessarily. I think if the right player comes available, at the right price, they'd jump at it. But all those pieces have to come into place. I sketching out a rough estimate of a 53-man roster this morning and I only had six "locks" at linebacker. I do think that's a bit light.

Mike ,are there any talks going on with the patriots and wilfork or are they only focussing on signing the rookies at this pooint in time ?
12:05
Mike Reiss -  My understanding, Peter, is that there is an open dialogue. I'm not sure that necessarily means they are at the negotiating table, per se. But I think they're still both open to finding a solution to make both sides happy.

Do Joey Galloway still have some speed left in the tank?
