Devra First -  Why hello! Fancy meeting you here. Let's talk about food, restaurants, and whatever else you feel like discussing.

What's new in the Boston Sushi scene? Dying for something new to try... Anyone been to Exotic Sushi and Tapas yet?
11:03
Devra First -  I haven't tried Exotic yet. Anyone? There's Fish Market in Allston, which recently opened. I believe some folks who used to work at Oishii are behind it. I'm curious to try it out.

I haven't had a chance to go myself yet, but I've been hearing very good things about Fish Market as well.

Curious: I was trying to help out a friend with restaurant suggestions and thought of Marliave. What's your overall opinion of the place? Thanks.
11:05
Devra First -  I like the downstairs and a lot of the food. I thought the more upscale component of the menu was reaching a bit, though it had its moments. I love the space. Service can be sloooow. Totally a place I'd happily go for a drink and a more casual meal, though.
11:05
Devra First -  Anyone have thoughts on Marliave?

I will have to checkout Fish Market, thanks.
11:08
Devra First -  I'm currently observing people walking down the hall, looking at some random free candy someone has put out on a shelf, and then shrugging and eating some. People will eat anything you put out for free. Is it like this in your offices, too?

What about BanQ in the South End? Atmosphere really cool? Food worth it?
11:09
Devra First -  The design of the space is really cool, and I think it's worth going once to have a drink and a snack in that space. It's all these blond wood ribs -- feels like being inside one of those dinosaur models people put together as kids. I don't love the food, but I haven't been in a bit. I wanted to love it, as the menu made it sound amazing.

What about the North End, anything new and exciting? Haven't been over there in awhile.
11:11
Devra First -  There's a new fresh pasta shop, DePasquale's, which is a pretty cool thing to have.

Hi Devra, I've been into that show Cake Boss. Are there any really awesome cake shops around here? What about good cake baking classes?
11:14
Devra First -  I'm a little underwhelmed by local cake options. I think the baked goods at Tatte are totally beautiful, and I have a soft spot for Eldo Cake House. I don't tend to buy cakes, though, so I'm not that well versed in local offerings. Anyone have a cake bakery (cakery?) they love? I love to bake, so when there's an opportunity to make a cake, I sieze it.

So I have had some great meals at Neptune, but my most recent mid afternoon trip was disappointing. Particularly the vitello tonnato sandwich was nearly inedible. It was dry flavorless veal slices topped with globs of tuna tartare and spicy mustard. It was a very poorly executed sandwich. Has anyone else tried this?
11:14
Devra First -  seize.
11:14
Devra First -  That is disappointing. I haven't tried it.

Hi. I'm looking at Piccola Venzia or AlDente in the North End for a Saturday night dinner; the folks that are going are not too adventurous but enjoy good italian food; does one over-rate the other? Thanks!
11:16
Devra First -  I haven't been to either in a while. They might like Antico Forno, Monica's, or Giacomo's (if you're up for a line).
