Live chat with family life columnist Suzanne Tobias

Hi there, and thanks for joining me for my first live chat. Looks like I didn’t win that $96 million Powerball jackpot, so I guess we’ll go ahead and do this thing! :)

Thought we'd start with a little convo about picky eaters (got one?). If so, send me your questions or tips. I'm no expert -- you'll hear me say this a lot -- so these chats are all about sharing what works with other parents.

Do you think the whole "sneaky chef" movement works? I mean, do kids really like cauliflower sauce, for example? Maybe it's worked for other people, but seems to me the food is just a little too weird to satiate picky eaters!

Thanks, Elle. (You win the first-in-the-door prize!!) I've definitely heard pros and cons about the "sneaky chef" strategy. Some think the goal is to get kids to like *real* healthy foods, not to sneak stuff, but...
1:27
And this is just me, but I say whatever works! If you can ground up some zucchini or whatever into the spaghetti sauce and the kids love it and eat it, what's the harm in that? I wouldn't call something cauliflower sauce (ick!), but I'd sure try the cauliflower sauce and call it "white sauce" or "cream sauce" or "superhero sauce" or whatever.

I've looked at the official Web site (http://www.thesneakychef.com/) but haven't taken the time to try any of the recipes.

I haven't tried any of the Sneaky Chef recipes either, Elle, but have several friends who have, with mixed results.

picky eaters my boys want nothing but Pasta unless it's dinner at Sumo

Dinner at Sumo?! Sign me up! I mean, who wouldn't hold out for that? ;-) Do your kids actually eat sushi, or do they just like the knife show?

[Comment From David]
When my kids were little, we invoked Bugs Bunny and fed our kids "super carrots," which they gladly ate.
