A couple of notes around the league for those of you who may not have heard ...

First, Minnesota received unfortunate news today that Seimone Augustus has been lost for the year. She sustained a torn ACL the other night and will have surgery this week.

Second, there is good news for former Fever star Tan White. She was signed this week by the Connecticut Sun, who has been in need of some scoring. Tan is dressed and will play in tonight's game against Chicago. Good luck to Tan. I actually had conversation with the Sun's PR director this afternoon ... Tan has had some early success already today! After shooting practice it is customary for many teams to shoot a half-court shot as a fun, light-hearted mini-competiton to see who can hit a shot first. Like the Fever, Connecticut does this ... and Tan hit the half-court shot with her new team today.

What you think about Fever's new addition, Jessica Davenport? Will she is good fit for Fever team?
7:20
Sarah, thanks for your question, and sorry for the delay ... I just took a phone call from the team in Detroit, of all things!

OK, to answer your question, my take is this ... I like the addition. We all wish that Yolanda Griffith were still active, but I think the two are very different players and it's not fair to compare them. The way I look at it is this ... compare our posts to what we had last year. Besides TSB and Ebony last year, we had the rookie Khadijah Whittington and Bernadette Ngoyisa. Now, we have a still-young, five-year veteran Jessica Moore who was the last cut by a pretty good Sparks team; and we have Davenport who, despite some possible disappointment while with the Liberty, was the No. 2 pick two seasons ago and obviously a very skilled post player.

I like Davenport. I think we are better than last year. We are certainly bigger. Davenport gives us a different look than with Griffith, Yo was certainly more athletic with Davenport, and that will be the biggest knock against Jessica. But she is a skilled player who, if she can be incorporated into the offense and defense that Lin Dunn wants to run, I think she can be a very viable addition.

I don't think she will ever average more than 10 to 12 minutes a game. I think she will play a role, and probably most often in half-court situations. But yes, I think she can be a good fit.

With 3:00 to go in the first quarter, Tan White has just been inserted into the Connecticut lineup ... it is her debut with the Sun. First trip down the floor she dishes to another former Fever star and another native of their shared hometown of Tupelo, Miss., Tamika Whitmore ... Whitmore missed the shot but was fouled. Sun leads 20-12 nearing the end of the first period.

Here is my public service promotional announcement for the evening ... don't forget Dads and Daughters Night at Conseco Fieldhouse on Sunday. I suppose if you are participating in this chat, you probably know this already. Even if you do, invite another Dad to Sunday's game. And if you don't ... get your tickets now!

Dads can get into Sunday's game for just one dollar. $14 seats are just a buck for Dads when they bring their daughters with them.
