ESPN.com's U.S. Open live blog between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez

5:15
Matt Wilansky -  Ravi Ubha will be around at 7 p.m. ET to live blog the Rafael Nadal-Fernando Gonzalez match. In the meantime, enjoy Cilic-del Potro.
6:56
Ravi -

Well, we're getting closer to the start of the match. Let's hope the weather holds up. Rain is forecast for this evening in New York, and things don't look promising for Friday. A repeat of last year, perhaps, when the weather was great for the first week and a half before faltering. It's windy, too, which has to favor Nadal. Remember how he coped with the blustery conditions in Indian Wells? Gonzalez likes to take big swings, which doesn't mesh well with wind.

7:00
Ravi -

Given the forecast, it's no surprise to see the players already on court warming up. No delay this time. Organizers want to get this one in.

7:05
Ravi -  For those who missed it earlier, the winner of this one faces the surging Juan Martin del Potro. The big Argentinean survived a scare to beat Marin Cilic in four sets. Del Potro trailed by a set and break. Cilic won't be too disappointed once  the dust settles, having knocked off a listless Andy Murray in the fourth round.
7:07
Ravi -  Oh, during Nadal's five-match winning streak against Gonzo, he hasn't dropped a set. Maybe Gonzalez is due to win one?
7:10
Ravi -  Rafa sprints out of his chair, as usual, getting ready to receive, as usual. Gonzalez takes the first point on a forced error. The stands are pretty empty so far. Even they've been caught off guard by the early start.
7:12
Ravi -  And Gonzalez gets on the board. He lined up a few forehands in the game, and we saw Nadal go high to the Gonzalez backhand. He'll want to do more of that.
7:16
Ravi -  A hold to love for Nadal to start. Nadal won't be lacking in confidence after his match against Monfils.
Gonzalez should be feeling pretty good also. He swept past unpredictable Czech Tomas Berdych in the third round and downed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth. Gonzalez rallied from a set down against Tsonga.
7:18
Ravi -  That clash against Tsonga was typical Gonzalez. He broke a racket, gave a racket to a delighted fan, and turned around and bent over facing a Tsonga smash. Yes, he's thoroughly entertaining one way or another.
7:19
Ravi -  Gonzalez holds for 2-1, although it was tough, going to deuce. Nadal missed a routine forehand at the net, which eased a bit of the pressure.
