I am allergic to a lot of foods. Do you think it is safe for me to get the H1N1 flu vaccine?

Dr. Douglas Webb, Dir. of Infection Control, Methodist Hospital -  unless you're allergic to eggs, you should be able to get the vaccine without problems.

when will people be able to get H1N1 shots
5:08
Dr. Douglas Webb, Dir. of Infection Control, Methodist Hospital -  the H1N1 vaccine is currently being sent to the states and local health depts - as soon as it is distributed to your physician's offices or to the schools - which should be over the next several weeks.

Do you feel any different when you have the regular flu versus the H1N1?

Dr. Douglas Webb, Dir. of Infection Control, Methodist Hospital -  People have the same symptoms with H1N1 as they do with seasonal flu.   Should have fever and respiratory symptoms, muscle aches and these usually start rather abruptly.   Most people recover without problems.

Dr. Douglas Webb, Dir. of Infection Control, Methodist Hospital -  It is possible - we encourage people to monitor their temps and symptoms closely in this circumstance.   We don't routinely tell people to avoid returning to work in this circumstance.   The incubation period for this virus is short (usually 1-4 days).

Dr. Douglas Webb, Dir. of Infection Control, Methodist Hospital -  They do surveillence on emergency rooms and selected physician clinics for influenza-like illness and that's reported to the state on a weekly basis. That, coupled with the testing data that we do on individual patients gives us a good idea of how much activity there is in the community
