[Comment From Kevin 1.5 yrs unemployed]
Where are the jobs? What industry has jobs right now?
12:25
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  Hi Kevin -- thanks for your patience and your questions!
12:26
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  1.5 years unemployed can be frustrating for sure.     Let's talk about where we are seeing the bulk of the new jobs and growing industries.
12:26
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  First, let's look at our population.   We are aging.   The baby boomers are demanding better services to suit their needs.   Healthcare is one area that is certainly growing.
12:27
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  And in Mass esp we are seeing lots of talented folks developing new therapies and solutions for a number of our aging bodies.
12:27
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  So biotech, life sciences and med devices are all doing reasonably well.
12:28
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  I think today in the Globe, I read the venture capitalists are again opening the purse strings a bit in the Boston area.
12:28
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  Also, there are opportunities in some areas of education.
12:29
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  Have you thought of temping or contracting Kevin?   These might be good ways to get your foot into the door and try out different roles and industries.   Temp employment is up.

[Comment From Marcy]
Any tips on getting in the door for an interview at a retailer for IT positions? I've come close a couple of times, only to find after 3-4 months they ended up going with internal canidates. In the old days internal canidates were looked at and decided on before going to external canidates. Now it seems its all at the same time.
12:29
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -

Welcome Marcy --

12:30
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  Thanks for your patience today.   Let's get to your question.
12:30
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  First, you must be doing something right.   You are getting close and getting interviews.   Good for you.   That means your resume must be crisp, clutter free and well done.
12:31
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  There are companies who are "forgetting" about internal candidates sometimes.   Then an employee raises their hand to say "hey, what about us?" and they turn to the internal pool of applicants.
12:32
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  Alot of my client are dusting off their internal posting system -- they haven't used it in a while.   Now that they are hiring... they need to use it again!
12:33
Pattie Hunt Sinacole -  You should keep in touch with these employers.   If they thought you were a strong candidate, they will likely keep you in mind for other opportunities too.
